Imagine maintaining each of these pages as a single file, with the
links between them maintained by hand.  Now picture a more complex
document, with lots of internal hyperlinks.  Every time you
restructure, all of the links have to be updated.  Maintaining the
large document as a single document, which it really is, and
converting is really the only solution.  This example converts on the
fly; static conversion works too.
