== Summary ==

The first two paragraphs of the definition of the <code>img</code> element should be changed to:

An <code>img</code> element represents an image.

The image given by the <code>src</code> attribute is the embedded content; the value of the <code>alt</code> attribute provides equivalent content for those who cannot process images or who have image loading disabled.

This change proposal has been drafted as fulfillment of [http://www.w3.org/html/wg/tracker/actions/194 HTML WG ACTION-194: Draft a change proposal to issue 31 to update the definition of img element as per discussion at TPAC 2010 HTML WG Face2Face Meeting] which has been superseded by [http://www.w3.org/WAI/PF/HTML/track/actions/72 HTML Accessibility Task Force Action-72].

== Details ==

The first two paragraphs in the current definition of <code>img</code> state:

<p>An img element represents an image.</p>

<p>The image given by the <code>src</code> attribute is the embedded content, and the value of the <code>alt</code> attribute is the img element's [http://dev.w3.org/html5/spec/content-models.html#fallback-content fallback content].</p>

At the [http://www.w3.org/2010/11/04-html-wg-minutes.html#item12 HTML WG's TPAC 2010 Face2Face meeting], agreement was reached that the first two paragraphs of the definition of <code>img</code> should be:

An <code>img</code> element represents an image.

The image given by the <code>src</code> attribute is the embedded content; the value of the <code>alt</code> attribute provides equivalent content for those who cannot process images or who have image loading disabled.
