Success Criteria

1.6.5 Synthesized Speech Language: If synthesized speech is produced and more than one language is available, the user can change the language. (Level AA)

Tests

Test Procedure 1

  1. Determine if the user agent produces synthesized speech. If not, select Not Applicable.
  2. Determine if the user agent more than one speech language. If not, select Not Applicable.
  3. Identify methods of changing the language of the synthesized speech. (e.g. by exploring the UI or consulting Help documentation).
  4. Open a test document that contains text in a language other than English.
    Sample HTML test document: Languages Text
  5. Follow procedure to change the speech synthesizer to the language desired.
  6. Listen to the text in the language you changed in step #5
  7. Check that the synthesized speech correctly pronounces the new language. Not all words have to be correct, but the general sense of the sentence should be clear in the correct pronunciation of that language.

Expected Results 1

  • Check #7 is true
