Success Criteria

1.1.3 Replace Non-Text Content: The user can request a placeholder that incorporates recognized text alternative content instead of recognized non-text content, until explicit user request to render the non-text content. (Level A)

Tests

Test Procedure 1

  1. Identify types of content that have textual alternative content (e.g. by exploring the UI or consulting Help documentation).
  2. Open a test document that contains examples of these types of content that have alternative content (e.g. images with alt text, abbreviations with expansions, etc.).
    Sample HTML test document: Alternative Text with multiple types of alternatives on the same image or element
  3. For each example:
    • Check that a preference or other control allows you to set placeholders instead of displaying the default content (e.g. image, video) and
    • Check that the placeholder incorporates the alternative content (e.g. alternative text instead of images, video captions, audio transcript).

Note: For many user agents you might have to add an extension to gain this ability.

Expected Results 1

  • Check #3 is true for each content example tested
