Device Sensors

Text from Sept WD:

All functionality of the content can be operated without requiring specific device sensor information, unless the device sensor is essential for the function and not using it would invalidate the activity.

Versions at or after TPAC:

Motion Input: Where device or user motion detected by a <a>device sensor</a> is used to operate functionality in content, the following are true:

  • the functionality can also be operated by user interface components
  • device and user motion can be disregarded to prevent accidental operation

Except when:

  • the motion is essential for the functionality and doing so would invalidate the activity.
  • the motion is used to operate a keyboard, pointer, or assistive technology

(move note to understanding?) NOTE: This criterion concerns input through sensors which respond directly to motions such as tilting, shaking, or panning.

Nov 5 Draft: All functionality of the content can be operated without requiring specific device sensor information, unless the device sensor is essential for the function and not using it would invalidate the activity.

Github Draft:

From pull request 378: Functionality which can be operated by device or user motion can also be operated by user interface components and can be disabled to prevent accidental actuation, unless the motion is essential for the function and doing so would invalidate the activity.

NOTE: This criterion concerns input through sensors which respond directly to motions such as tilting, shaking, or panning. It is not intended to cover indirect motion associated with operating a keyboard, pointer, or assistive technology.

Notes:

Kathy: Definition of Device Sensor was changed to be very specific about it being on motion. Looking for the change. CfC ended Sept 5th.

Issue 560: Response Editorial Change

Issue 481: Response Discover-ability may be something we will be able to address in the , but for now it is the same as a keyboard issue

Issue 459: Response thanks for the comment we have incorporated Steve R. ideas into the latest draft.

Issue 372: Response done. Essential was addressed.
