How to Test WCAG 2.x

To further its goals of harmonising accessibility testing and interpretations, the ACT Taskforce will develop an website (or web app) that will list test rules for WCAG 2.x conformance testing. The "How to test WCAG 2.x" will be based on the the WCAG 2.0 quickref (https://www.w3.org/WAI/WCAG20/quickref/), but instead of techniques it will contain rules for testing WCAG.

Goals

  • Allow accessibility testers to share and build on each other's experience in testing WCAG 2.x
  • Provide an authoritative set of rules that organisations can rely on when acquiring accessibility test products and services
  • Stimulate accessibility testers to document their method of testing, and their customers to ask for reproducible test results through documenting accessibility test procedures.

Target Audience

  • Accessibility auditor
  • QA leads
  • Accessibility tool developers

Acceptance Criteria For New Rules

  • Rules must conform to the ACT Rules Format 1.0
  • Rules must be considered valid interpretation of WCAG 2.x by the AG Working Group
  • Rules must be significantly different from already accepted rules

Publication Schedule

The first version of "How to test WCAG 2.x" should be published together with the ACT Rules Format 1.0 recommendation (March 2019). A schedule for pre-releases should be developed. After release of How to test WCAG 2.x, major rule updates will be done twice per year. Minor / patch releases can be done as they are completed.
