type = "toolbar" or "context" NEW #

"toolbar": Indicates that the element represents a tool bar.
"context": Indicates that the element represents a context menu.
If the attribute is omitted, the element represents a list of commands that is neither a context menu nor a tool bar.

label = string NEW #

The label of the menu.

Additional constraints and admonitions #

The element menu with the attribute type whose value is “toolbar” must not appear as a descendant of the a element.
The element menu with the attribute type whose value is “toolbar” must not appear as a descendant of the button element.
The compact attribute on the menu element is obsolete. Use CSS instead.

Tag omission #

A menu element must have both a start tag and an end tag.

Changes in HTML5 #

Although previous versions of HTML defined the menu element as a generic “single column menu list”, the element has now been given the very specific purpose of representing a list of commands.
