Submission request to W3C

We, W3C member Hewlett-Packard Company hereby submit to the Consortium the following specification comprising the document(s) linked below:

  1. Internet Imaging Protocol V1.0

which collectively are referred to as "the submission". We request the submission be known as the Internet Imaging Protocol submission.

Abstract

This document is a specification for communicating tiled, multiresolution image data and metadata over networks. IIP allows a single image resource to be used for fast browsing, high-resolution printing, and complex image manipulation without requiring extensive server-side processing. This document was developed jointly by Hewlett-Packard Company, Live Picture Inc., and Eastman Kodak Company.

Implementation

The following points should be noted as regards licensable technology involved in any third party implementations of the technology specified in the submission: The FlashPix file format is referred and used but not required for IIP. Microsoft Structured Storage is referred to and used but not required for IIP.

Suggested action

We suggest that the Consortium consider this work as relevant to the activities of the Graphics working group and make this work available as a Note.

Resources

To help with this work, we expect to be able to provide one non-resident engineering person to the Consortium.
