which collectively are referred to as "the submission". We request the submission be known as the "STTS2" submission.

Abstract

This document describes a proprietary specification of Electricité de France. It specifies the format of STTS2 transformation rules that can be applied to a HTML document (without CSS styles) in order to take advantage of the Cascading Style Sheets and remove deprecated HTML elements or attributes in favor of CSS. Even if the specification deals only with HTML, this kind of transformation, or an extension of this specification, can be easily applied on the fly to well-formed XML documents in order to render them in a HTML browser without any XML plug-in or internal knowledge.
The grammar of this specification is mainly based on the CSS2 grammar and extends it in some ways.

This specification covers an important industrial concern which is the migration of existing documents from HTML 3.2 to HTML 4.0 + CSS. It then promotes the use of CSS for content providers.

This specification is available in French and English.

A proof of concept is described in the document.

Electricité de France agrees that the submission may be copied and distributed by W3C staff and W3C members as part of the W3C process.

Should W3C be interested in an open standardized version of this specification, or in incorporating (parts of) the submission into another specification, we expect W3C to request permission from ELECTRICITE DE FRANCE.
