The Hypertext coordination group was created in April 1997 to facilitate coordination in the user-facing technologies area: originally just HTML, then Hypertext and Hypermedia.
With the move to all Public Working Groups, a separate Coordination Group was found to be less useful and it was closed down in November 2013.
