httpd problems on Solaris

Hi Arthur, I refer to your paragraph about coping with "hang" problems
in a httpd server running under Solaris. You propose a script which basically
kills "pseudo" daemons running under nobody.

We have indeed enormous problems with our server since we started running
Solaris. We now have tried the two 'ndd' settings proposed in the 'Notes
about Solaris' and got - maybe - a slight improvement. But we continue
to have moments in which there is just no response for several minutes
My system admin tells me that the server is just sitting there doing nothing,
so we are absolutely sure that it is not the load. It is just waiting!!

Your article suggests that by killing the "nobodys" one would cure the
hanging problems. My questions:

1) I have seen the nobodys in some cases, but I am now sure that the
hanging problem occurs also WITHOUT nobodys hanging around, so can
I expect any improvement from your script

2) Normally may server runs as "root". But I suppose that I must NOT
kill this version of the daemon??!!

3) Is there any other tricks we can do??

By the way are the cern SUNs now using Solaris?

Thank you very much in advance for your help, Cheers, Bernd
