You can use the :invalid pseudo-class to override the default styles.

The more important part of this issue was that the invalid event does have a default action while the specification says it doesn't.

As far as I can tell, in the case we're talking about, it doesn't have a default action. What's its default action? Am I missing something?

I've tried to clarify the case I think you're talking about.
