This is a comment on http://www.w3.org/TR/2012/WD-websockets-20120524/#ping-and-pong-frames Quoting: "User agents must not use pings or unsolicited pongs to aid the server; it is assumed that servers will send solicit pongs whenever appropriate for the server's needs." Maybe I'm just not reading it right, but the clause after the semicolon doesn't parse for me. Should that say: "it is assumed that servers will send >>unsolicited<< pongs..."?
Yeah, I think Noah is correct i.e. the text should say "; it is assumed that servers will send UNsolicitED pongs whenever appropriate ...". (Actually, that clause appears to be purely non-normative and as such perhaps it should just be parenthetical.) Hixie - what's your take here?
The word "send" was extraneous.
