Wilco: we have asked for 2 days, 1 only CG and 1 with AGWG, we'll see what we actually get. Don't know yet which days.

ARIA 1.3

Godwin: Shungyo tried and broke down major changes. A lot of change, most seem fairly minor (new roles, attributes, ...)
... Some changes around aria-hidden.
... I made a break down of changes to existing rules. Seems not too much.

Daniel: last row mentions a change in accname, not sure what it refers.

Wilco: Not sure "presentational role inheritance" is new.

Godwin: I assume it just became more prescriptive.

Wilco: most important is the required context roles/children.
... Is "caption" role giving a name to groups? Will it be part of accname? Not sure it concerns our rules, though.

Wilco: prohibited attribute. A section with empty aria-labelledby is a generic (no name) where aria-labelledby is prohibited, but aria-labelledby is specifically allowed on section.

Dan_Tripp: aria-description does not plays in "label in name" rule.

... It feels a bit weird that ARIA 1.3 is a living standard without being properly announced.

Daniel: this is the future of ARIA, but we are in the process, so it is still messy.
... this will be the last review for ARIA, it will go to CR, and we are pretty sure implementers are already following that. We will think about improving numbering afterwards.
... ARIA specs will become "evergreen", aka unversionned.

Wilco: Like HTML 5.
... currently, features get pushed (and implemented!) in PRs.

Daniel: I expect horizontal review at PR review. There will still be editor's draft.

Wilco: how do we feel about the braille attributes? Does/How WCAG cover them? Do we need rules? Or pushback?

Dan_Tripp: Is there screen readers support?

Daniel: One. This is also a specific case where braille needs to be different than regular description (shorter, ...)

Dan_Tripp: Sounds like low priority.

Wilco: It introduce a new factor of accessibility violation.
... Is it a WCAG failure to have an incorrect label only forscreen readers?

giacomo-petri: I think it will be. 2.4.6 requires labels to be meaningful, no matter how they are provided.

annethyme: ARIA is already mistreated, issues that cannot be perceived by sighted users will lead to awful results.

Wilco: I am also unsure whether we should push back.

Godwin: will take it back to shungyo. More to talk about in next meeting.
