WCAG 3 background and COGA involvement

tiffanyburtin Shared an analogy about what's happening with WCAG 3 right now: it's like walking through your house to see what chores need to be done so we can put it on the list. The chores don't have to be done now. We just need to note what needs to be done in the future.

There are 8 WCAG 3 subgroups

COGA is leading some of these groups or has a COGA member participating in these subgroups.

The COGA task force also periodically reviews WCAG 3 drafts.

WCAG 3 structure has 3 types of guidance: https://www.w3.org/TR/wcag-3.0-explainer/#structure

Foundational requirements, supplemental requirements, and assertions

Foundational and supplemental requirements must be testable by independent, third-party testers

Assertions can help WCAG 3 cover territory that is hard or impossible to test, such as whether an org conducted usability testing.

COGA has ongoing representation in most of the WCAG 3 subgroups and we do periodic review of the WCAG 3 drafts.

COGA members are encouraged to join WCAG subgroups, but please note that weekly participation (including asynchronous work) is essential for the subgroups.

If the instructions Julie sends are hard to understand, please flag in a margin comment or email me directly, thanks!
