Meeting minutes

Accessibility of Machine Learning and Generative AI.

jason: work is continuing. Today - coordinate efforts.

janina: no problem. spent hours - need to consult with Scott. There are two sections in his edits. One is easy, but needs to be inserted. The other I can't tell, and need him to walk me through it.

Jason: might be resolvable via email during the week?

Janina: doc is long lines and what I got was short lines...line by line tool doesn't help. Will try word by word.

Jason: course of this next week, Scott and Janina to coordinate

Miscellaneous topics.

jason: daisy consortium user requirements doc is probably going to be published in the next month or two. meetings did conclude. Being finalized by editors and on its way

Janina: are they trying to get it before TPAC?

Jason: I don't think so, but they're trying to get it finished and publishing. Including to more general reading applications as well.

Janina: announcement from APA - special meeting next week

APA Call on "Beyond ID Hrefs"

Janina: next week APA...Looking for better mechanisms beyond ID Hrefs for documents...Enough traction that we want to look at as APA, and I think people here might be interested in that conversations. You're welcome in that call. that's a week from today. 10am US Eastern.

Jason: when it turns into a draft I'd be interested in taking a look

Janina: I think there's a draft? In the calendar invite there's a reference to the git thread

APA's Epistemic Contradiction

Janina: problem where the person who needs the accommodation is the one who is least able to tell how good, bad, or indifferent it is. Ex: Deaf person can't tell if the captions are any good, Blind person can't tell if the description is any good.

Jason: If the Summation is adequate, might be another example.

Jason: you have to understand what is being summarized to understand of the summary is good enough

Janina: we can describe the problem, but we don't have a name for it. How can we talk about this without a name? Last we kicked this around, some potential names came up

<janina> validation (or evaluation) paradox

<janina> Accessibility Media Validation Paradox (ANVP)

<janina> s/Accessible/Alternative/

Jason: still fairly opaque unless you understand what it's referring to. If anyone comes up with additional proposals, could we get to that next week? Give people time to think about it

janina: would appreciate this staying on the agenda until we come up with something

Jason: we were thinking about a short document on this

Janina: yes a short 1-2 pager

Jason: worth bring this back next week. We'll have it in misc. for next week

Jason: Maturity model has its review. I commented last minute, but I got them back in.

raja: privacy of using AI. Ex: watching a video and there's a video audio description. WHat's appropriate to say in some situations and what may not be based on privacy? There needs to be a standard of what's appropriate for accessibility and what's interfering with privacy issues.

jason: we don't have specific text proposed for this yet

janina: Raja, if you want to kick this off, on git or email, we can kick it around.

Jason: if you want to read first frat first, you can do that
