Meeting minutes
Logistics, administratrivia
Lionel_Wolberger: I have regrets for the 7th and 14th, Janina and Matthew will facilitate.
janina: TPAC coming, deadline for breakouts is 22 October
Lionel_Wolberger: I submitted a proposal to CSUN devoted to Adapt, posted to the list
Symbols
Russell: No major progress to report this week
… i did an initial install
… the goal is to encode a few symbols with versions from different symbol sets
… if time permits--not essential to the demo-- I may try implementing ligatures that would demonstrate using the proposed Bliss unicode encoding
Lionel_Wolberger: In parallel we can work on our 'front window'
matatk: Checking the PRs... we have an open request for review
<matatk> w3c/
Russell: I can review this week
matatk: For TPAC we can deliver (a) positions we are taking for WHATWG and I18N
… we expect to drive towards consensus. Prepare only talking points, we will be ready with the explainer and materials
… we have an option to turn this into a more official W3C document (like we are doing with destinations)
… for the record, our Symbols extension does not handle fonts
Lionel_Wolberger: Are we blocked by unicode?
Russell: We can always use the private use area.
… then, when the Bliss proposal gets approved, we can make an adjustment from one to the other
… the proposal is published on the Unicode website
matatk: We can include caveats about the limitations of using the unicode private use area
Russell: PUA is used, e.g., for emoji color information
… we need to be thoughtful about how we use PUA in order to avoid collisions
Destinations
janina: I read and approved Abhinav's work
… with some caveats
Abhinav: Yes, I see the feedback from Matthew and Janina
… I will address them soon
<matatk> Last week's minutes, for reference: https://
Lionel_Wolberger: the 'name game'
… discoverable; standard, common destinations, waypoints, familiar, core, recognizable, WAIpoints, signposts
janina: Are we reconsidering the word 'destination' as well?
matatk: If destinations is open to discussion as well, we can consider standard areas, familiar tasks
… we are considering pages
janina: or parts of pages
matatk: common pages
