Rashmi: Discussing a Pattern based on the Issue paper: Trigger Warnings and Personalization. The proposed pattern says trigger warnings and triggering content can be avoided or hidden via personalization.

Rashmi: The summary says - provide adjustable user preferences to remove or hid triggering content, any trigger warnings or categories of content that may affect emotional health.

Rashmi: The "What to Do" section recommends avoiding trigger warnings without allowing user to control them at a global level. There is associated research provided.

Rashmi: Other suggestions are flexible user control, easy to find and use the flexible controls, essential content with critical warnings and instructions should not be removed or hidden, optional prompt of people with impaired memory.

Rashmi: The how it helps section explains that personalizing trigger warnings and content exposure supports user's emotional well-being and helps them build their emotional health.

Charli: Would we want to provide a way for users to adjust content as opposed to just removing or hiding.

Rasmi: Yes, that will be in the next section.

Lisa: We could make the summary say, "hide or adjust"

Lisa: Global settings could be "remove, adjust, or hide" in Summary statement - also in global settings.

Charli: yes, that is what I was thinking - I think what Lisa has done clarifies it.

Rashmi: I think that is better.

Rashmi: Appendix A has suggested syntax and additional research.

Rashmi: Example A shows a trigger warning about article that discuss violence or traumatic events. An example of how to adjust content would be replacing spiders with something that is not triggering.

Lisa: For example A - the news example - is this what we wanted them to do? I understood that a news website shows a content warning about violence and then a read anyway button and a box. I thought this was about adding a global settings where the box would say something like, "personalize content shown."

Lisa: provided another example where the options were "Show this time only" or "Play anyway," and the other option would be "Personalize content settings." If they press personalize, they get other global options about how to manage content. The other options could be categories of content to show, hide, or adjust. For each category, there were be

a list with options in a grid of always show, show at certain times (which opens up options), show, etc.

Lisa: We also wanted there to be an option that would say something like, if these are selected, there would be a small toolbar with a sensitivity arrow so that they could adjust what is shown.

<Jennie_Delisi> * Apologies, I have to drop the call. Have a good week.

Rashmi: I think I have given the wrong example and that we should not show the trigger warning.

<julierawe> Hi, everybody, sorry I'm so late!

Lisa: The trigger warnings would not apply to critical or emergency content.

Rashmi: I think we can start with a line that a news article shows triggering content and then provide the opportunity to personalize settings.

Lisa: Excluding this examples, let's finish reviewing and then we can discuss the examples on a different day.
