Meeting minutes

Adapt for APA rechartering

<janina> https://www.w3.org/2023/07/apa-wg-charter.html#deliverables

janina: We need to decide the disposition of all previously committed deliverables
… focus on the modules

Lionel_Wolberger: We opened the link
… first deliverable is WAI-Adapt: Symbols Module
… the document says, "Expected completion: Q2 2024" and we need to account for the lack of completion
… cite our work with the TAG, and ongoing drive towards a good resolution via a new approach that seems to satisfy everybody

Lionel_Wolberger: Help and Support module was supposed to be CR in Q4 2024.
… We dipped in and tackled one important item in here, which is well-known destinations.
… What about distraction etc.?

matatk: Distraction came from the content module.

*group looks for audit trail for content module on the charter page - it is cited via URL under symbols module*

matatk: Look up content module - six attrs *group looks them up, via the link in the charter; agrees that symbol and destination came from content module*

Lionel_Wolberger: let's look at help and support.

janina: What COGA means by help is what's intended here. Not necessarily context-sensitive on-screen help. Human help.

Lionel_Wolberger: We didn't get to some of these. Some are possible now via AI.

janina: A user-sensitive AI could do a lot of this.

matatk: COGA is interested in having help and support module related capabilities implemented on our Well Known Destinations work stream.

matatk: e.g. specifying the _type_ of help that is provided by a help destination.

janina: Reminder that the new horizon is 2027

janina: We need to have some candidate text next week - I will work on it.
… What I don't know is what we expect in the way of deliverables. WKD, symbols, registry, ... we need to think that through.
… Needs to be done by early Feb.

Face to face logistics for May 2025

matatk: In the process of booking things. Asking for 5th to 7th. How much agenda do we have?

janina: 4 blocks each day (2 morning; 2 afternoon)
… 8 in total

Lionel_Wolberger: Could we name the sessions already?
… We will have bookend sessions.

janina: They'll be shorter.

matatk: Q is do we want 2 days, or 2.5 days?

Annalu: I think 8 is a good number, and 2 days should be sufficient. Maybe need to reserve some time for demos.

Russell: I think 8 is enough. Looking at it through symbols lens.

Russell: I'm interested in accessibility centre if we can organise this.

Annalu: Should we do some planning of next steps?

Annalu: What should we be aiming to get over the line, in terms of deliverables, to contribute to what the charter is to deliver?

Russell: We should curate for the face to face those tasks that benefit most from face to face meeting as opposed to virtual

matatk: I think we have a list in other minutes of Adapt this year, but we have W3C docs that we'd like to finalise, such as Symbols Note, Registry spec, and Explainer. If we get to those before May, then outreach, slide decks, partnerships, etc. could be on the agenda.

Russell: Re demos, creating the font from SVG files. My trial has expired.

<Zakim> matatk, you wanted to ask about demos - public?

matatk: Demos - demo'ing to others, or working on refining them?

Annalu: Probably the latter - we could work on this whilst together - what do we need to demonstrate in support of the explainer.

Annalu: Russel has shown us some demos online; it would be good to play with those to see what the limitations are, and where we get to.

Annalu: We could have conversations about those. Demos in the sense of testing, seeing what works and what doesn't, linked to the explainers that by then we should have.

Annalu: We were talking about if we want to invite people to join us. Do we, or don't we? If we do, what would the purpose be?

Lionel_Wolberger: I understand invitations are appropriate when we have clarity over our agenda and the relevance for particular guests. Will keep it on the RADAR for the next couple of weeks.

Annalu: Now we've agreed two days, shall I look into possibility of accessibility centre visit on Wednesday?

<matatk> +1

Lionel_Wolberger: On schedule for Wednesday morning, does anyone object?

Lionel_Wolberger: What if we could get it on an evening so janina could come?

Annalu: I'll ask about their availability.

janina: I don't think we need to fill in the precise details of the agenda right now - let's put Matthew's info on hotels and agenda suggestions on a wiki.

Russell: Re hotel info - is that going to be public?

Lionel_Wolberger: How about direct emails?

Russell: WFM

Well-known destinations

matatk: I am working on a new version of the browser extension and demo site. Here is the latest: https://github.com/matatk/wkd-prototype/tree/experimental (warning: I've been naughtily rebasing this branch, so don't consider it stable)

Abhinav: +1, waiting to see the results of Matt's

matatk: Major issues remain (a) sub-sites (b) re: help, what kind of help is offered
