Meeting minutes
<janina> Date 17 Dec 2024
Introduction, logistics, updates as needed
Lionel_Wolberger: No meeting the next two Tuesdays, we resume on 7th Jan
janina: Recommend the chair acquaint him/herself with the W3C Calendar, we are to rely on it starting mid-Jan 2025
Face to face meeting planning
Lionel_Wolberger: I have notified, and am pushing for approvals
matatk: We are looking at room arrangements
matatk: We should define the agenda
… noting, we can cover Symbols and Well Known Destinations
… and wish to include a tour of the Google discovery center
… and are considering other local invites
Well Known Destinations
<janina> matatk: Drafts updated ...
<matatk> Latest explainer update: w3c/
<gb> Pull Request 279 Update well-known destinations explainer in accordance with TPAC 2024 (by matatk)
matatk: The draft is done
… abhinav has comments on the PR
… next step, answer those comments in the git threads
… when these comments are resolved, PR will merge
… that updates the explainer
… next step: Matt to update the Browser Extension to use this new method
… we can then use this extension to socialize Well Known Destinations anew to COGA and other interested parties
janina: Do we have a good example?
matatk: (1) rewrite the spec to be a best practices note (2) decide here which destinations to encode, find an 'MVP' (3) update the browser prototype
janina: Keep in mind, once we are done we need socialization of this.
… as this is a 'best practices' implementation of existing standards
… I see a place for this in WCAG 3.0 as well
matatk: A successful pattern I see, is a Community Group working together to polish a new concept
… which, following that, is then ready to standardize
… the CG provides a grass roots path
… We may not require a CG, as we are using pre-existing standards
… getting people outside this group excited about this, is very important
