[xfq introduces the issue]
xfq: any comments on Yijun's proposal at w3c/
xfq: current text is in https://
Yijun: I'll raise a PR
w3c/clreq#578
[xfq introduces the PR and the related issue]
xfq: The term character is often used to mean different things in different contexts: it can variously refer to the visual, logical, or byte-level representation of a given piece of text.
[Discuss the terminology]
Yijun: Latin letters and Chinese characters may not have the same orientation
[Coninue to discuss the terminology]
xfq: I'll raise a PR according to our discussions today
w3c/clreq#568
[Discuss xfq's comment at w3c/
Eiso: 其他文种 is also problematic, like for Japanese
Yijun: if there's a book called 残念, is it a Japanese book or a Chinese book?
Yijun: Personally, I don't think this needs to be mentioned in clreq
… This should be the author's own judgement
Eric: I think it could be written as a note
Yijun: agreed
… but not in the main text
Eric: we can write something like this:
Eric: "There are different editing styles from region to region, for example, we can write it like this blah blah blah"
… this is about the usage of book title marks
[Discuss the convention for quotation marks]
Zhengyu: as I mentioned in previous discussions, if we list 5 books, and the 5 books are written in 5 different languages, in this case we tend to use only the Chinese book title marks
Eric: CY/T 154—2017《中文出版物夹用英文的编辑规范》 is only about English
Zhengyu: We can say the author can do whatever they want, there is no one standard convention
Eiso: for things like https://
Eiso: it's not clear it's Chinese or other languages
Zhengyu: In this case, the book title marks are needed to indicate that this is a work
Eiso: the song "TiAmo" is actually a Chinese song, not Italian
Yijun: should we add the note?
Zhengyu: I think we should
Eric: +1
<xfq> +1
Eric: Eiso, can you write the note?
Eiso: OK
