Testing Topics API and Fledge

AramZS: did anyone have reports from testing Topics API and Fledge?
… or about recent update?

bmay: I'll put a link into irc

<bmay> Topics relauch: https://groups.google.com/a/chromium.org/g/topics-api-announce/c/P0hyAAmUD3o

bmay: I followed up to ask about timeline for re-release, haven't yet heard back

AOB

AramZS: do we have anyone from TAG on the call?
… Topics asked TAG to review
… when/where do we look for reviews?

<AramZS> https://github.com/w3ctag/design-reviews/issues/726

https://github.com/w3ctag/design-reviews

wseltzer: I expect they'll update that issue when they have comments
… their minutes are public

<AramZS> https://github.com/w3ctag/design-reviews/issues/723

AramZS: Another review request has gone in for TURTLEDOVE

<AramZS> https://github.com/w3ctag/meetings/tree/gh-pages/2022/telcons

<AramZS> https://github.com/w3ctag/meetings/blob/gh-pages/2022/telcons/04-18-minutes.md

AramZS: I'm linking minutes that discuss early design review for Topics API, for the curious
… interesting TAG discussion re use and importance of user-targeted advertising
… this may be another place where additional use cases would be a useful resource for TAG
… if there are people who have additions to make re user-targeting, it would be good to get that information into the discuss
… to help TAG get background for review

wseltzer: I'll let the TAG team contact know of resources here

Rotem: another topic I'd be interested in,
… how proposals relate

<AramZS> I think it is fair to say the two are very different approaches

Rotem: e.g., how Topics, FLEDGE, first party data of publisher relate

<AramZS> How do the following relate, appears to be Rotem's core question: FLEDGE/TURTLEDOVE, Topics, Parakeet

Rotem: different data surfaces, how they migth all come together

bmay: as I understand it, Topics gives alternative to cross-site data collection, to get sense of users' interests around the web
… while FLEDGE gathers information from a website, maintained in the browser, to provide interest-based ads in retargeting
… with all the activity occurring in the browser

AramZS: Also, FLEDGE/TURTLEDOVE/PARAKEET are about altering the bidding process
… while Topics provides targetable terms that can be used during bidding

Rotem: thanks. My question was more, how these things work jointly in an ad occurrence

wseltzer: let's queue some questions for when we have more of the Google team here

bmay: I'll also put an issue into the FLEDGE repository, encourage you to ask in those meetings

<bmay> FLEDGE calls issue: https://github.com/WICG/turtledove/issues/88

AramZS: also for a future agenda, should we invite IAB TechLab to talk about Global Privacy Platform
… since there are more new laws

wseltzer: thanks

wseltzer: Next meeting, June
… June 7
