Meeting minutes

<Brent> present?

Brent: We basically have short updates and work comming up in surveys. It will be a short meeting.

Topic 1: List of accessibility courses

<Leticia> https://wai-course-list.netlify.app/course-list/

Letícia: I will present the latest update from the group and the survey...
… one update from the survey was to remove the word "offer" and we are using the word "resource" also removed the word "vendor"...
… we have a minimal header...
… we also included new features such as "search"...
… update on presentation to make it more distinguishable, we see filter criteria...
… we have a traditional search behaviour...
… another resource is the update of total courses...
… some attributes are still not clear for instance formats such as hybrid or blending...
… do we have any questions otherwise I will go to submission forms...
… we received feedback to be more concise, we decided to move country more close to provider not for the course...
… we include "other", we also have prerequisites and WAI Curricula and link to the page with an explanation...
… in some user tests we received the feedback that people do not knew about. We included the latest modules...
… we have language and formats...
… schedualing is also explained.
… we have also rephrased platform without providing any specific name of platform...
… we have also added accessibility support...
… the next field is lenght in our user test we received feedback that this is course or institution dependant so we have leave it open...
… cost and other issues such as availability can be reviewed before submission...
… corrections can be made before submissions...
… at this moment we are veryfing that all information is included...
… these are the changes.

Brent: The first question, if you go to the list page I assume that the link undelined will go diretly to the page of the course...
… in the submit form when you click the submit is there is a way to print to know what has been submitted?

Leticia: I have not checked but I will do that.

Brent: It might be the case that somebody wants to save it as pdf. Also is there any way to inform how long the review of the submission will take?

Leticia: Actually it is within a month.

Brent: Some companies might have similar courses but with slisghtly different attributes. Is it possible to create a copy and edit or do they need to create a new submission each time?

Leticia: This is a good idea.
… we thought that creating a duplicate to be edit it might be problematic...
… we may ask for a bunch of json files and add them.

Brent: I understand that this can be problematic.

Leticia: With a bunch of json files will be easier to manage. It is not included in this first version but it will be implemented at a latter stage.

Shadi: In the future you plan to have a download json right? So I can load it for a new course...
… the problematic is when new people comes to new places and do not have the old json file so to be able to download it would be great.

Leticia: Yes.

Shadi: This is really great. Quick questions in types of resources there is other and for instance I see "workshop" and I am worried that it might be converted to an events calender...
… how about individual classes? I guess that you do not want to have workshops listed?

Leticia: This was highly discussed, we thought that this could be a good solution because is very dynamic. We just want to wait and see.

Brian: It looks great I have a general question about consistency with the Tools list.

Leticia: The evaluation tools list is in the same project, we try to keep aligned and try to use the same components of the WAI page...
… we decided to go for some existing design paterns, we might need to adjust some details.

Brian: I like this version better.

Brent: we need to check with the editors to make sure that accessibility is consistent.

<Zakim> shadi, you wanted to ask my next innocent question

Shadi: On the format I was wondering between f2f, blended or hybrid. Is this that important?
… I wonder if blended is needed from a user perspective.

Leticia: I understand, maybe for filtering is not that much important but people requested that.

Shadi: Maybe this should be more on the description, just wondering. We may want this more for the users than for the teachers.

Leticia: It is also a cultural issue some countries call it hyrid and others call it blended. It was already a tough discussion.

Kevin: I think is important to have it, specially for adding courses.
… I can see value in it.

Brent: F2F is going to be present, online is online, hybrid is online and present and blended can be onside and online. This is my understanding.

Shadi: Hybrid is you can choose. Blended is part of the course are online and others are on person.

estella: term used differently in different regions
… blended can be synchronous and asynchronous
… not about on-site and on-line

Brent: How do you use the hybrid and the blended term?

Howard: Usually we offer one or the other.

Leticia: For hybrid we have onside and online. Blended we can choose the types.

Howard: Some hybrid courses might be on in my university but I am not aware of it. For me blended might add some confusion.

Brent: Can we define this from the user perspective?

<shadi> [[ "Blended learning, also known as hybrid learning, ..." https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Blended_learning ]]

Leticia: Maybe we may want to change the wording as it might not be the best choice.

Shadi: What is the use case?

Leticia: For me it would be I am looking for a course in Portugal and I want to know if it is online or in person.

Howard: For me blended adds confusion I am thinking for a better choice such as costumisable.

Kevin: A possible choice would be scheduled or not scheduled.

<Zakim> Sylvie, you wanted to ask if it is important to go in such details with synchronous, asynchronus, onsite and online?

Sylvie: For me it is confusing. I never heard about blending and I do not know if this is important for the student.

Leticia: For me it was new too but existing courses can be f2f, hybrid or blended.

Sylvie: I still do not understand.

Leticia: People who knows blended they will need it.

Daniel: Maybe there are different axes that we might consider.

Howard: Maybe instead of hybrid it can be dual. To me blended seems like hybrid.
… maybe specify on-side and on-line...

Brent: It has become normal in COVID that a combination of F2F and online is called hybrid.
… blended is more confusion. Maybe we can leave it for the survey. OK?

Laura: There is a start and end date that is not mandatory. How does the system filters that?

Leticia: Start date is required and end date not because we do not have it available. Now we do not remove it after the end date. Maybe we may want to explore it.

Shadi: Leticia, this is really great work. There are so many different ideas. We want to keep it flexible but if we could costumise it better so not everything applies to all...
… there is also "availability" and this is about the students or the course. I like Daniel approach to break it down into axes, so you get the answers more costumised.
… issues such as regularity or other related questions.

Leticia: It was very difficult to add the specifications. We had a quite long form and we have a lot of information. We still need to measure which is the essential info to filter and which is responsibility of the provider, such as the dates...
… in terms of regularity this is why we leave the lenght open, it mostly depends on the institution/company.

Shadi: I might be reducing some fields based on previous selections. Cetain questions might become irrelevant depending on previous selections...
… I wonder if limiting more would be more useful.
… schedualing possibility might be very relevant.

Leticia: Yes we have a lot of ideas we are still not sure which is the more consistent way to present the basic filters. We do not have enough information/data for categorisation....
… it would be a good idea to simplify data.

Howard: What if a course is ongoing, every semester, how is this added in the system?

Leticia: This is a UC, in this case you do not have an end date and it is open.

Brent: If people do not see the information in the system people will click directly to the course.

Brent: the survey might be open today through next weekend.

Leticia: The survey is not that long but it will take time. English native speakers may make recommendations and also in terms of features available.
… this is the last version before approval. Please be meticulous and thank you all for your time and efforts.

<Howard> This looks great btw.

Brent: Thanks also to you Leticia it is a very tricky resource specially for the filtering. Some choices might be reused for us.
… Monkey review is the last one before publication so very important.

Topic 2: WAI Curricula Content Author Modules.

<Brent> Link to Content Author Modules: https://content-author-modules--wai-curricula.netlify.app/curricula/content-author-modules/

Daniel: We have gone through the feedback in the different surveys. We have worked a lot and have now 6 modules.
… we start with clear content (language), then we move to structure, then images (different ways), then complex images (short and long)...

<dmontalvo> https://content-author-modules--wai-curricula.netlify.app/curricula/content-author-modules/multimedia/#learning-outcomes-for-module

fourth module is on data tables, the forms module have been moved to module 3...
… the multimedia module, the last one has been long discussed specially in terms of responsability...
… when it comes to audio descriptions, sign language or captions it might be not a responsability of the author but expternalised...
… also the importance of differentiating the type of users for each accessibility service are important for content authors...
… we provide informations regarding the different questions to be considered form a content authors perspective...
… different requirements making sure that content authors are aware of the responsabilities...
… what the group thinks about this proposal before moving to the survey?

Brent: Thanks Daniel, what does the group thinks about? Comments questions specially arround multimedia?

Shadi: Great work, looks really nice. Have you considered to break issues such as forms into smaller pieces?

Daniel: I agree that it might need a more cross referencing. Good suggestion.

Shadi: The grouping of things is very important for content authors.

Daniel: There are some issues that have not been closed yet. It is good to have them open in order to track them and ensure guidance, the case of tables is a very important aspect...
… that is something that I agree and I will polish.

Brent: I know that most of you is the first time you see this modules.

Brent: Daniel is it worth putting a link to the agenda with open issues?

Daniel: There are open issues, I want to give people the opportunity to go through these open issues in Github.

Topic 3. Work for this week

Brent: Weekly survey will be launched today. There is an accessibility remote meetings that has been drafted. We have made some changes but can not track where the comments come from...
… we want to add this document in the weekly survey. Previous results will be also available. We will try to consolidate all questions/comments and provide Github issues.
… The weekly survey will be a bit more time consuming...
… weekly survey closes on Tuesday 26th April.

KrisAnne: Maybe we want to extend a bit more the weekly survey.

Brent: Yes agree. Then the next survey will be on courses and then WAI curricula...
… we will send messages and reminders. Any questions?
… then we give you back that time today!
