Meeting minutes
Wendy reviews agenda
Wendy: This is our last meeting in 2021
Introductions and Agenda Curation
Wendy: Anyone to introduce themselves, anyone new to the call today?
… or any agenda curation, or any other business we cover here?
Check-in, dashboard https://w3c.github.io/web-advertising https://w3c.github.io/web-advertising/dashboard/
Wendy: We have lots of work in many side meetings and other groups
… we active community groups
… WICG, PrivacyCG, PATCG, Federated Identity CG, Antifraud CG
… Today is first meeting of anti-fraud community group
… and many side discussions that have been happening regularly
… and sometimes reporting back
… we have our dashboard collecting issues across lots of specific proposals being raised
… as more community groups take up activity
… their repositories may be better place to catch up on activity specifically related to work there
… Is there anyone who wants to give an update
… or call attention to anything in particular that has been happening in some of the other areas to which work has gone?
… If not now, we may work in new year
… so people can prepare questions and get it scheduled to make sure we are connecting with all those related discussions
NPD: I appreciate the summary of the different groups
… I have not yet been able to make the PARAKEET side meetings/conversations due to scheduling
… can anyone give an update, or where should I read the latest about that group's work?
Wendy: Do we have anyone on the call who can share pointers to PARAKEET discussion?
BrianMay: It's all in GitHub repo; I'll look for link
Wendy: Kelda has been reporting to webapp mailing list
… or updates on calendaring there
Kleber: Let me mention
… the PARAKEET meeting under WICG and Fledge, also under WICG auspices
<bmay> Parakeet related: https://
Kleber: happen at same time alternating weeks
… a lot of discussion explores relative merits of the two proposals
… and what one or other proposals enable
… in discussion with various of browsers and adtech
… both Edge and Chrome folks are showing up to both of those meetings
<npd> oh, I had not realized the alternating meetings and comparison of proposals was happening. that's helpful
Kleber: and coming to either or both, as I do, to stay in the loop on that area of investigation
Wendy: Thanks, Michael
… very helpful
WendallBaker: Michael covered a lot of what I was going to cover
… points to reinforce
… benefit of this is actual running code
… there is a prototype with detailed instructions for how to stand it up
… the challenge for us in commerce is that we don't have research budgets to do this
… we are in interdiction...
… we told PARAKEET that we cannot play around with it
… can't engage in research in Q3 or Q4
… that notwithstanding, I want to reinforce how great it is that there is running code
… as we go into new year
… we should think about how to fund test trials
<lon_pilot> +present
WendallBaker: funding open source and standards activities is hot right now
<npd> I can confirm that non-profit civil society organizations are also lacking trillion dollar budgets
WendallBaker: two notes: working code is great
… second challenge is how to bring these products to market in a commercially viable way
Wendy: Thanks, Wendall
… sounds as though there is good progress being made; potential convergence of those proposals
… and interest in thinking more about how we run tests
… and get reports out about how that works in code and in experiments
… thanks to everyone who has been participating in those discussions
… and see if those offer some new areas in the new year
… I suspect we will also hear other places
… where there is convergence
… or where one of CGs or participants might recommend work that is ripe to charter a Working Group
… the kick-off to the W3C process of working group chartering
… is for the W3C Team to take note of the activity; and to send advance notice
… that a charter proposal exists
… and at point where folks think there is work that might be ready for that step
… we would be happy to help share it with the membership and share it here for input
… I see queue is empty now
… any other comments or questions in the general catching up and taking stock?
<wseltzer> karen: are there any upcoming conferences of particular interest to ad-tech community?
<kleber> Karen: Are there any conferences coming up in Q1 of interest to the ad tech community?
<wseltzer> ... I will be out at CES
Karen: in particular anything happening for adtech at CES?
Wendy: any other events to call to our attention?
… feel free to drop notes into the Github repo or mailing list if you do
Scheduling upcoming meetings (starting Jan 2022)
Wendy: With that, upcoming meetings
<blassey> two privacy related conferences coming up are Real World Crypto and Enigma
Wendy: thanks, Brad
… noting two privacy related conferences
… we'll put some links into the minutes
<blassey> https://
<wseltzer> https://
Wendy: a good set of privacy and security events
… Real World Crypto is in January 2022
… I see some names I recognize
Kleber: I believe Netherlands gov't is making decisions on COVID restrictions
Wendy: We'll keep an eye on participating in a hybrid, virtual or post-poned event as the case may be
… that leads us...next meeting here
… we return from New Year's break
… potential first meeting could be January 4th
… not expecting a lot of agenda requests, but will look for highlights for that meeting
… and continuing on our every-other-week schedule
<russStringham> @kleber where are the callin details for the fledge meeting?
Wendy: next meeting after that would be January 18th, skipping the week when Real World Crypto is scheduled
… Anything else before we wrap up for the year?
BrianMay: I think it's been a great year; we got a lot done, thank you everyone
Wendell: thank our hosts; Wendy has done an amazing job
… we started in 2018
… every week, biweek, has been a long slog
… you are always on video; so please keep it up
<npd> [applause] +1 for wseltzer
Wendy: echo also thanks to Karen who has scribed the technical details and fast talking
… that people do trying to get every last word in
… thank you for minuting that discussion
<kleber> Hear hear!
Wendy: I wish all of you an excellent new year, happy holidays
<bmay> +1 thanks Karen.
Wendy: happy end of hyear
… stay healthy
… so you can rejoin us refreshed in the new year
[adjourned]
<dinesh> Happy New Year everyone!
