RPC breakout kickoff

Ted summarizes meeting

Adnan: still on todo on our side

News

MagnusF: I am leaving JLR, last day this coming Thursday and going to Toyota
... Steven Martin will take over on RPC as well as coordinate on VSS/Gen2 for JLR
... I will provide him personal support and facilitate the transition, hope to be able contribute

Various: Congratulations/good luck

Access Control pull request

Ted: Ulf how would you like proceed? we can discuss some of the comments here, decide to proceed with the PR per convention and raise issues

Ulf: Isaac and I intend to respond to all comments and already planning on changes based on them
... ok to accept
... wait a bit for us to respond and give clearance
... VIN could be solved with a psuedo-VIN

Ted: yeah, could be eg a md5sum

Compression

Ulf: there are certainly many angles. Sanjeev and I implemented one compression/encoding schema and will continue to refine it
... we have made several iterations with an even better compression rate and additional ideas

MagnusF: I also replied to that thread, think we should look at Protobuf or other format
... should look at data plane
... or control plan. when we run into this issue for eg backup camera we steer to separate plane
... we do not want to run control functions and data on same plane

Ulf: video streams should never be sent over Gen2

MagnusF: agree

Ulf: we'll use control plane to link to streaming
... in discussion with an OEM we have a very strong stated opinion on every byte counting
... Gen2 payload is way too big for them

MagnusF: again protobuf comes to mind
... I think the interface from vehicle to cloud, it should be something well supported for integration

Ted brings up GENIVI CCS and ExtVeh

Gunnar: they don't go there wrt formats etc

[clarification it is all about off boarding]

Ted: I've always seen this more as a push than a pull...
... I could see alt formats in Gen2 to prepare for sending on a push

MagnusF: agree, push from vehicles not pull from cloud
... on the vehicle we don't have to worry about compression

[discussion of what resides where]

[Gen2 can run on vehicle which brings up the push to cloud topic. it can also run on a server in cloud]

Ted to write up issue/concerns

MagnusF: every byte counts
