<cwebber2> Scribe: pukkamustard

<cwebber2> https://www.w3.org/community/swicg/

cwebber: Introductions real quick.
... Everybodies introductions skribed last meeting.

Grishka: My name is Gregory, from Russia. I used to work in [uninteligble] telegram projects. Mostly write in Java and C++. Current sorry state of social media got me interested in ActivityPub. Here I am.

<Grishka> actually I have one thing to add about myself

cwebber: Worth discussing if we should do an online ActivityPubConf.

sl007: There was an announcement from Pixelfed to do something.

cwebber: Morgan Webber who was main organizer (co-organizer with many other) has reached out to him. He has not run a conference before. If you want to collaborate we should. If not you should use a different name than ActivityPubConf.

sl007: We do not know if FediConf in September will take place in Barcelona.
... Grishka, if you are interested there is a page ...

<Grishka> [uninteligble] == Pavel Durov's projects, VK and Telegram

Grishka: one thing to add about myself. I have my ActivityPub project. It is a server. It is a social network intendend to be very similar to russian social media network. It's called smitheren. Currently in very early stage.

can you add link, @Grishka?

Reaching out to others

<Grishka> https://github.com/grishka/Smithereen

cwebber: On this topic two subtopics. Links to LibreLingo and to Solid. Nobody from topics present. Maybe move on to Groups on ActivityPub topic. Unless anybody has a feeling of urgency.
... moving on.

Groups in AP

<sl007> @Grishka btw : we also have a nice category in the forum https://socialhub.activitypub.rocks/c/software/

cwebber: Gregory, I see you have interest in this. Would you like to start what you are thinking of?

Grishka: I havent started implementing groups yet. Really I don't have much to say about groups now.

cwebber: I can say a thing or two. If there is interest. Is there anything topically you would like to go trough? go on or qustion on groups?

Grishka: I listed a couple of questions on the SocialHub forum. But I think I will have a lot more when I start getting into it.
... Probably lot to talk about on this topic next meeting.

cwebber: moving on to current topics list.

Datashards

cwebber: Serge, would you like to give introduction to state?

emacsen: There are a number of us working on not immediate implementation issues but things that may become relevant in 1-2years+. And we are looking into how to develope these add-ons in a way that it is collaborative and not as radical divergence from how ActivityPub is now.

cwebber: And not only datashards?

emacsen: Yes. Datashards for example. Distributed key-words - a supplementary protocol. what a p2p ActivityPub might look like. All topics that are not ActivityPub but ActivityPub related.
... Is there interest for a loose group for weekly meetings on discussing different projects.

<sl007> +1

cwebber: Was not in the topic list.
... Was on the bullet list not on topic list.

Future fediverse community calls

emacsen: after this meeting we will talk about Datashards.

Future fediverse implementation show and tell / planning meetings

cwebber2: Some background: Serge and I had a call with cj who works on gofed. And we basically outlined a future direction of the protocol to fill in the holes. Cj showed interest in doing a particular part of it. We all had a great time on the call. Maybe this should be regular.
... The SocialCG is to raise topics in abstract. with Cj it was about future implementors implenanting the issues. Idea to have a format for discussion: Presentation and then discussion on the presentation.

emacsen: These calls (SocialCG) are puroposely not focused but more broad
... to allow new ideas.

cwebber2: pause to see if anybody queues up.
... Would anybody be interested in this?

<emacsen_> +1

cwebber2: Coordinate a time for a Jitsi-Meeting. for the format: Presentation and then discussion.

<Grishka> +1

<sl007> +1

<cwebber2> +1

cwebber2: show of hands for interest.
... Feedback from Fediverse implementors: this might be a format that would be nice. Best way to go: experiment. Organize a meeting. See what happens, take it from there.
... Action point: thread on forum to coordinate meeting. No strong opinion on which forum.
... Take a action point to create a thread on forum and announce on Fediverse. Sounds good?

<emacsen_> +1

+1

hellekin: I guess you could use a poll.

cwebber2: We could use a poll. Is there a date/time poll thing? Maybe for now it is good to get a time range that works for people. and then if there is overlap create a poll.

<cwebber2> ACTION: cwebber2 will make a post on socialhub and link it on fediverse talking about fediverse implementors usergroup

cwebber2: for now the fediverse implementors usergroup. Maybe we'll find a better name.

Adding WordPress (@pfefferle), Mobilizon (@tcit) to #software

cwebber2: If there's nobody on the queue. We can move on to the wordpress discussion.
... Is this a SocialHub thing? about adding them to a category?

hellekin: I put this item on the agenda in order to kind of capture the people interested in implementing ActivityPub or working on it.
... What I want to propose is to create categories for people who are not there yet.
... Maintain a catalog of implementations and projects.

emacsen: can you summarize cwebber2?

cwebber2: You want to create a category on SocialHub forum who are working on implementations and drive them into the ocmmunity

sl007: If I see it right. Wordpress is the last thing on topic. Maybe we can discuss Conference as additional topic.

cwebber2: Morgan should be represented in that conversation. But yes, I would be happy to discuss conference stuff at the end.
... Comment to hellekin: A great thing to do. thumbs up.

hellekin: Cool. Will do.

cwebber2: Nobdoy on queue. Maybe talk about conference?
... FediConf first?

sl007: Original idea at ccc to do a virtual ActivityPub conference weeks before the Barcelona conference.
... Daniel from Pixelfed wants to create an online conference. I am ready to help anywhere.
... Barcelona conference is uncertain.
... because of current situation.

cwebber2: Morgan will join conversation. She was in touch with dansup.
... sl007, do you want to repeat what you said about the conference stuff?

sl007: At the Chaos communcation conference i took place in the discussion about a conference in september. Autumn not summer. But nobody knows if it can take place (travel restrictions, etc.). Daniel told that he can do at a virtual conference.

Morgan: I have talked a bit to dansup and Chris and I have talked about doing a online ApConf. Jist: Same organizers or different name. dansup seems to be ok with coordinating with us. Idea is to do a call for participation and people record their submissions. Also have scheduled Jitsi meetings for discussions to get around the issue of streaming on free softwrae.

sl007: I agree, only question if Jitsi is needed or Mumble is enough.
... I would have a feature request for streamlined coding together.

cwebber2: We participated in virtual penguin conf. They had a live part over Jitsi or other streaming services. They didn't have prerecorded stuff. They also had room for people to hang out and talk about topics.
... Rerecording and talking to author is not to far away from that.
... One advantage of Jitsi is screen-sharing and code-demos.

sl007: Shoud it be live coding or things like in the rebooting the web of trust with one Git repository where stuff gets collected.

cwebber2: I think there can be lot of things taken as inspiration from rebooting the web of trust like pre-submissions.
... Two different conference we are interested in: Hacking and presentations. Is that about right?

sl007: That is right. What would be nice is to use Internet as a tool to code together.

<emacsen_> +1

Morgan: Nice things about PenguinConf: It was done in a hurry so no one way of doing it. There were zoom calls, twitch sessinons... Maybe take inspiration from that and use different mediums. Let the conference become what people want.
... Another question: how to organize schedule for people in Europe and America.

<emacsen_> erm +q (sorry)

Morgan: Maybe five days with shorter days (overlap) or something else.

emacsen: This looks like it will be a fairly long topic. I move that this will be moved to a different place for planning.

Morgan: #apconf room may be the place.

cwebber2: Good idea to have enough planning and discussion. Get people like dansup and other involved.
... two possibilities: Schedule for topic next meeting (in a week) or in a room to talk about this?

<hellekin> I'd rather have an ongoing topic about it

<hellekin> +1 to emacsen_

emacsen: I propose to move to #apconf room. Helps for asyncronous communication.

Morgan: and we can schedule a meeting there.

cwebber2: #apconf on irc.freenode.net
... Then let's have the discussion there.

Morgan: bye everybody.

cwebber2: That looks like the end of the list of topics.
... Those who are interested in Datashards at the top of the hour.

hellekin: Will be happy to talk about datashards.

cwebber2: If you can make it we'll see you in 15 minutes or in a month or whenever.
