Curricula

Brent: Several comments, Daniel has been working through them, thanks for that good work.

Daniel: Many helpful comments, thanks to all who took the time. For those who commented on broken links, they shoudlbe working now. Comments have suggested to introduce standards before principles. Would like to discuss this.
... I have worked on the way it is introduced and hoping that the edits will address the concerns. In April we decided to organize accouding to "topics", let's provide an outline for instructors and allow them to choose the order. There have also been wording and grammar suggestions that I appreciate.

<dmontalvo> https://deploy-preview-72--wai-curricula.netlify.com/curricula/1-4/

Daniel: this is very much a work in progress and I will continue to work on them. adress your concerns and keep you informed about what the actions have been.

Estella: My questions is that if this is a vocational training, it will be useful to establish some kind of levels. If higher education it may be a bit different. What is the intent?

<shawn> Shawn points Estella and other to "Requirements Analysis: https://www.w3.org/WAI/EO/wiki/WAI_Curricula

<shawn> Sharron: pretty strongly in favor of introducing the principles first. starting with guidelines can be overwhelming and confusing

Daniel: It is inteded to be flexible enough to be used in both environments. It is a hard balance to maintain and so your observations are useful and appreciated.

<Howard> +1 to Sharron's comment

<Laura> +1 to sharron

<shawn> +1

Daniel: That is my inclination as well.

<shawn> the issue is at https://github.com/w3c/wai-curricula/issues/89

Brent: To clarify where I was coming from was the fact that the Principles seemed to be interjected since WCAG was mentioned first. But now that I understand that the principles are the fiundation, I completely agree.

<Eoncins> +1 to Sharron

<Eoncins> +1 to change the requirements word

Daniel: The verbiage at the beginning needed to improve the approach so maybe when you review the revision, it will be clearer.

Brent: if there are no further questions or comments, we can move on. Thanks Daniel for your hard work on this and all of EO for commenting

Accessible Media

Shawn: Our graphic artist has been slow unfortunately but we are due to get the polished versions in SVG today. Thanks to everyone for the comments in the Approval to Publish survey and I have addressed them. Mostly small tweaks, nothing controversial.

<shawn> https://wai-media-guide.netlify.com/design-develop/media/description/#introduction

<shawn> What: Audio description describes visual information needed to understand the content. (For example, “Pat opens a jewelry box, looks at a diamond engagement ring, and cries”.) Description is usually narration added to the soundtrack.

<shawn> https://wai-media-guide.netlify.com/design-develop/media/acknowledgements/

Shawn: Link here to an example. We may want a more detailed example for later on, but this one seemed fine to illustrate the point. Look at the acknowledgements and hope everyone is listed who contributed. Those are the notable changes. Any questions or comments?
... so do we want a resoultion?

<Eoncins> Great work Shawn!!

RESOLUTION: EOWG approves the Accessible Media resource for publication.

<dmontalvo> Great work, +1 to publishing it as I said in the survey.

<HelenBurge> +1

<hdv> congrats Shawn!

Brent: Congratulations Shawn for such good work as an editor. I know many people are looking forward to the final publication of this, thanks to all who contributed and reviewed.

Process toward publiscation

Brent: It seems we have changed our process a bit, posting both the staic original version as well as a "live" version of edits in process by the editor.
... I was late to the last review process and did not see how to review the live version. What is the best way to handle that so people can review the both the original and the work in progress.

Shawn: Daniel had link to live version in the survey. We should probably also put it in the Work for this Week. I didn't have separate versions, since didn't expect many changes at approvel to publish.

Brent: OK then we can make part of the process to post both links to W4TW - the original as well as the work in progress as the editor implements edits or fixes.

<Eoncins> I agree with your comments Brent

<hdv> I like that we have the fixed vs newest versions

Brent: If you are ever confused by the fact that two versions may be posted, just let us know.

Announcements

<shawn> [ /me notes that she hasn't sent the surveys to WAI IG list yet... ]

Brent: We have a custom to be able to make announcments about other events or publications of interest to EO about accessibility. In that spirit, I would like to share a research survey posted by Vivienne, an EO participant from Australia. We invited her to send email to WAI-IG and to EOWG. So you may hear from Vivienne and she will be willing to share her data when the survey is complete.
... so while this will not be a required "work for this week" for EOWG we did want everyone to be aware of it and to consider providing Vivienne with the data she needs. Take the survey if you have the time and pass it along to others that may find it relevant and interesting. Thanks!

<shawn> great that Hidde was able to go to ATAG meet-up so close!

Hidde: Another item to share was an event organzied by someone who was the accessibility lead at Wordpress and Mike Gifford who works at accessibility at Drupal, It was interesting to hear the difference. Much more high level support at Drupal, they ahve made it ATAG conformant to Level A. They are invested throughout the organization with leadership and all the way through. They all seem to be

excited by the prospect of fixing not just one site for accessiiblity but the entire system.

Brent: Did you feel that any of that was relevant to how to present topics within the resource you are working on?

Hidde: Yes, they encouraged us to talk about what specific vendors do and how committed they are. It is a tricky balancing act but maybe if they hear from each other it will spark more interest int he ones that are lagging behind in accessibility.

<Eoncins> It will be great to receive the survey Howard

Howard: I have a new version of the survey for people who teach accessiiblity. The previous one was geared to recent grads, this one is to instructors. I will send to WAI-IG and EO and appreciate your pushing it along to any other networks that may have interest.

<shawn> Sharron: [questions about specific authoring tools]

<shawn> ...what was the name of the talk? anything published?

<Zakim> shawn, you wanted to ask title of meet-up and terms they used casually

Hidde: Pending Shadi's approval I may publish my notes on the meeting.

Shawn: What was the name of the talk and how do they refer to authoring tools.

Hidde: They call them CMS. The meetup was called Wordpress and Drupal accessiiblity.

Brent: Excellent, anything else anyone wants to share?

Wrap up

Brent: OPen survey for video scripts and it will close on Sept 1, Sunday evening for most of you. There is quite a bit to read.
... in the agenda is a link to teleonference availability. New dates have been added all the way to the end of the year. Please complete to the best of your knowledge now, can always change later.

<shawn> Sharron: Accessibility Internet Rally (AIR) - web accessibility contest. Team gets training and mentor. Design simple website for non-profit org in 6 week period.

air-rallies.org

<Eoncins> That's great Sharron thanks a lot for sharing this!

Happy to, Estella, thanks for your interest :)

Lewis: And people from this group may be interested in judging as a volunteer.

Brent: OK try to complete the surveys, stay up with work for this week, we will update and hoe everyone has a great weekend.
