Issue 605: distinguishing menuitemcheckbox from menuitemradio

<MichielBijl> https://github.com/w3c/aria-practices/issues/605

mck: requesting feedback

<mck> Link to proposal: https://rawgit.com/carmacleod/aria-practices/issue605/examples/menubar/menubar-2/menubar-2.html

mck: should be able to distinguish between checkbox & radio in menu?

mb: should be able to if grouped

jn: no way to know a checkbox until checked
... happy with example except off state doesn't display

siri: off state should show up for kbd only users

mb: does it display that way in native app?

mck: when navigated, shouldn't only show on focus
... only show on state?
... take most accessible native approach unless compelling reason to do otherwise

jg: could have different styling - just for selected state

<jamesn> GitHub: https://github.com/w3c/aria-practices/issues/605

mb: agrees

mck: comment in PR #853

<jemma> jemma: I agree with "too heavy lift example problem".

jg: will comment in #853

Datepicker proposal

mck: proposal: given that there are any number of datepickers, may not have all examples needed at this time
... proposes in short term, put the datepicker in combobox pattern. Then when we have more examples, have datepicker section
... current dir is "datepicker" but needs combobox example

jg: can get student to work on other examples as priority

mck: great!
... create issue for list of other datepicker examples

siri: is carousel example ready to use?

jg: current carousel is ok to use

mck: read thru open issue on carousel

Spin button guidance for aria-invalid

mck

<mck> The spinbutton element has aria-invalid set to true if the value is outside the allowed range. Note that most implementations prevent input of invalid

<mck> values, but in some scenarios, blocking all invalid input may not be practical.

<jemma> michiel:"Most spinbutton implementations will prevent the input of invalid values. But, in some cases blocking invalid input might not be practical. In such scenarios aria-invalid is set to true if the value is outside of the allowed range."

mb had email question, but mck says guidance comes first - mb is ok

Spinbutton structure

mck: discuss Issue #826
... normally input with increase/decrease buttons around it
... or spinner takes direct input
... increase/decrease are child of text in spec

jg: sees sibling elements

bg: on touchscreen devices, needs to be composite
... JAWS not good at announcing spin buttons

mb: language doesn't say has to be composite

mck: spec says spinbutton role is on composite

mb: role=spinbutton is on textbox

mck: edit has to be part of spinbutton, not spinbutton itself

mb: spec isn't entirely clear

mck: right, do we need to create both in our examples?

mb: I think so

mck: plan on making both

jg: confirmation alert that needs to be user dismissed is usability issue

jn: ; have setting in user preferences
... screen magnifiers need to be aware

mck: alert dialogs get focus and are dismissed with "Esc"

jn: alerts may have navigatable content within them

mck: not solid on alert discussion - add to future agenda

<jongund> JG: Got to go
