CAPTCHA - comments on public working draft.

<jasonjgw> Janina: the CfC was concluded yesterday and a formal decision will be posted soon.

<jasonjgw> Judy notes necessary changes to the list of contributors - discussed by e-mail.

<jasonjgw> Janina: we'll check that the changes weren't accidentally dropped.

jb: Notes Matt missing in past contributors icurrent version

jgw: Scott has provided us a summary of comments received

<jasonjgw> Janina notes Scott's comments.

<jasonjgw> Scott: read all of the comments received carefully and responded - in lone with discussion last week.

https://lists.w3.org/Archives/Public/public-rqtf/2018Aug/0004.html

<jasonjgw> Janina notes the blog post responses - mostly comments on ReCAPTCHA and Google's implementation thereof.

<jasonjgw> Janina will look at blog and APA mailing list comments.

janina: Noting three vectors for incoming comments: email, github, and blog responses

jgw: Offers to start tweaking what we say about privacy and security--our comments are incidental, our scope is a11y, not privacy/security
... Will start by looking at obvious tweaks, and use a separate branch

<jasonjgw> Janina notes more comments on this than on any APA publication since MAUR.

Upcoming research topics; APA working group dependencies/relationships.

<jasonjgw> Janina: we're very interested in addressing domain-specific content in meetings at TPAC.

<jasonjgw> Janina notes the growing integration of digital publishing accessibility activities into W3C, which is adding significance/support for addressing these issues.

jgw: Noting last week's ARIA conversation re incubating ARIA roles for mathematics and for creating a Math AAM

https://www.w3.org/2018/08/02-aria-minutes.html#item01

<jasonjgw> Janina: responding to a question by Judy, notes that the mathematics work was the inspiration for the larger quesitons that APA is seeking to address.

<jasonjgw> Janina hopes this mathematics effort will pave the way for work in other domain-specific areas (chemistry, music and others).

<jasonjgw> Janina also notes the joint meeting at TPAC with the mathematics/web community group.

<jasonjgw> Janina acknowledges the desirability of discussions with ARIA, digital publishing, Web platform to find a generalized approach to solving these issues, including development of use cases and requirements.

jgw: Notes that looking at previous research will help identify requirements for missing a11y widget support

sh: Yes

jgw: Notes that interaction with math expressions more complex than just intelligently reading an expression/equation
... Supporting the interaction may require the most research and expirimentation

<jasonjgw> Janina notes localization issues (e.g., differences in how mathematical expressions are spoken according to varying conventions).

janina: Expecting localization issues in correct reading; even localization within a specific ISO language designation

jgw: Saw some of this at the converence in SJC
... Recalls that Raman's Aster made it easy to define new operators and how to read them
... today for screen readers, the solutions are product specific
... Chemistry will be interesting; I sat through a braille for chem mtg last year where they tried to work out some appropriate approaches
... ETS colleague with chem expertise

janina: Maybe recruit for SVG?

<jasonjgw> Janina will be monitoring the SVG accessibility work with a view to the larger architectural/domaon-specific content issues that we're discussing here.

<jasonjgw> Janina notes the need for general solutions that can solve a variety of domain-specific problems, and that we need a consistent set of ARIA roles for SVG content.

jgw: Will follow up with Janina on introducing our chem person to SVG work

jb: Raising question of a11y of citation trackers

jgw: Recalling NFB resolution on the topic

<jasonjgw> Janina notes in addition to Jasno's comments that we need also to disclose any missing accessible widget support (e.g., tracking of time in music notation).

<jasonjgw> Janina notes that ARIA has been highly successful in providing relevant data about common widgets.
