Vivek: Base Glyphs Definition

Rules for combined glyphs (conjuncts)

What works for Devanagari fonts?

Lot of font foundries came up in 1990s

None of them picked up Open Type

they did not know how to use open type tables

there were no guidelines

for legal combinations for glyphs

these font designers could not figure out the open type logic

Looking at section 2.1

Encoding Considerations

a. Unicode overcompensates

b. over definitions - historical

c. modern usage

d. what are the defects

Unicode provides supplemental chapters

0931 - character - Nepali, Konkani, Marathi only

UTR - Text segmentation + Behavior of encodings

2.2 Font Considerations

a. What is the Behavior of a character b. Creating a simple template for font definitions

Gap Analysis: Point out problems where prevent people from using the web

outline why this is a problem and whether we are going to do something about it

or not
