jb: Next mtg will be 23 May

WCAG 2.1, will be looking for testimonials

jb: Now in PR! Yeah!
... Reminder to get AC reviews logged
... Will soon be issuing request for testimonials, primarily from member orgs
... Particularly if you can saw that your org will be implementing it!

EPub/Math checks

jb: George Kerscher has circulated re math support in epub

gk: It's a draft, will post once out of draft--should be soon
... Created in epub, xhtml under the hood
... Performs several tests
... Intented to provide visually attractive presentation
... javascript used to expose MathML to AT, where the js is supported
... If the js doesn't run, there's alt-text
... Next series of tests are just image and alt text to determine whether people can read word by word, char by char
... Will add one more with just MathML
... Do want to put SVG in as well
... Looking for feedback from publishing to see whether this is viable approach

jb: Any surprises?

gk: Just on getting consensus on the js to be used--more eomplicated than expected
... Do think people could use code as is, pasting their own images, etc.

jb: Did need to change testable statements?

gk: Have existing test statements which are human response oriented

ts: Developed by DAISY? For users? Others?

gk: Developed via Diagram Center and DAISY
... Intended to propose solutions for publishers--if it works
... Hope it could point to a best practices
... We tried to pay particular attention to good visual presentation, so should not impact visual consumption

Resuming accessible MathML discussion, issue now at <https://github.com/w3c/strategy/issues/43#issuecomment-387617250>

jb: Noting the link, not previously provided
... Looking for feedback
... Looking for clearer notion of how to move forward
... Anything to add? Or, do are we maybe OK if George's work bears out.

gk: I know many say they want to use latec or ASCII math
... We don't have those at this time--could be more comprehensive
... But if what we did works, it will be interesting to hear whether it's sufficient
... So is it wide review that's needed? Or a workshop?

ts: Do believe it has potential to be a solution. Have been working with Canadian library group with similar concerns
... Probably good as far as it goes, but there's likely more that could be done, for really complex expressions

jb: What an AAM might cover?

jd: Other AAMs show how to map on multiple platforms
... So would show how to expose each MathML element on each specific platform

jb: Do we need more from MathML

jd: TBD. Some browsers re intro'ing

jb: When back in FF?

jd: Been there for years

jb: Recall Chrome took it out

jd: at the time of the fork
... Removed it from their fork of Webkit
... Do we know about Microsoft?
... No knowledge of plan to do it

gk: Diagram talked with Microsoft about what could be done to expose what we've done
... Not recalling the specifics now

jb: Curious what happens with math on mobile platforms?
... Any support?

<AWK_> +AWK

gk: We hope to test on mobile as well
... We understand some support for MathML in Ibooks, but we don't know how effectual
... Understand recent implementations allow review, cut , paste of alt text--which is new
... If we could cut and paste MathML into Benetech's product, for instance ...
... Allows transforms to what you might want

jb: Asks about support in Silver?

js: Not specifically tracking this
... Suggest looking under content link on AU Wiki
... Could make it more prominent?

jb: Expect it should be very findable
... Reminding people to comment on above referenced page. We're using it to collect needs

kp: Been thinking about speech input for math. Should that go in?

jb: Yes, important point
... Please add comment in github thread

<Judy> https://github.com/w3c/strategy/issues/43#issuecomment-387617250

jb: Believe good things will only happen if we hear from folks in this process, so please comment

Publication & announcements check

jb: Expect from AGWG early June
... Also Techniques and Understand? Yes?

mc: Yes for Understanding
... Trying on Techniques

ak: Confident we will have some Techuniques, but this will be an ongoing project

mc: Techniques will be a living document

jb: No longer on TR as notes?

mc: Yes

jb: Just as a placeholder concern ...
... May need to message this carefully both in the PR and in the updated FAQ

jd: Hoping for ARIA-1.2 and Core-AAM 1.2 in June
... Including Accessible Name

janina: Expecting FPWD of Captcha update by end of May

[discussion on how not to collide releases]

jb: Any additional?

Upcoming W3C AC meeting, some FYI's

jb: There will be remote participation, incl video for the AC in Berlin
... Wondering who is tracking this mtg? Need to checkin.
... Mtg is Monday/Tuesday CET

jb: Reachable through Thursday, then traveling

Any other business?
