CAPTCHA note - update following circulation to APA Working Group

<scott_h> Welcoem back Dave!

<sloandr> Good to be back, scott_h :)

<jasonjgw> Janina: APA has reviewed the document, responding with general approval. Some reviews have appeared on the APA list.

<jasonjgw> There are several comments that need to be addressed.

<jasonjgw> Janina: Before moving to a public working draft, we need to normalize the language somewhat for the sake of simplicity and to facilitate comprehension and translation.

<jasonjgw> Janina: We want people to be able to focus on the substance of the draft. Janina suggests moving references into end notes. This can be resolved in the editing process.

<jasonjgw> 3: Janina notes the broken hyperlinks (404 errors) in the document, largely a consequence of the age of the original document.

<jasonjgw> Judy suggests tracking down the references where possible.

<jasonjgw> Janina notes an example of a news article from 2003 that could be tracked.

<jasonjgw> Janina, responding to Judy: approx. 6 links are affected.

<jasonjgw> Janina observes that the older references should be evaluated for continued relevance.

<jasonjgw> Scott: notes that he left much of the original terminology/language from the published note, even where revision seemed prudent.

<jasonjgw> Scott: suggests that many of the broken links are references that have been superseded by later work. The remainder should be tracked down, but their contents may be covered by the more recent references.

<jasonjgw> David offers to review links in context and to contribute to improving the text.

<jasonjgw> Janina notes that these are unsurprising, relatively small issues - details that we can resolve.

<jasonjgw> Janina wishes to resolve the editorial problems so that reviewers can focus on the substance.

APA Charter.

<jasonjgw> Janina: APA's Charter is up for renewal.

<jasonjgw> Janina: RQTF participants are welcome to participate in the APA Call for Consensus on the Charter.

Augmented Reality - extending research synopsis on virtual reality.

<jasonjgw> Janina: draws attention to a wiki page developed by the APA working group that keeps track of verticals within the W3C. Some of these are more active than others. Example: publishing hasn't yet raised issues leading to RQTF involvement, but this could change. Example: automotive and its potential to raise issues.

<jasonjgw> Janina: APA is contemplating introducing subtopics under each "vertical" category, including RQTF.

<jasonjgw> Janina: this should help those of us in the Task Force to understand better how we integrate into APA activities.

<jasonjgw> Janina: this tracks work that we might get involved in over the next several years.

<jasonjgw> Judy notes the role of the W3C and the Advisory Committee in charter review, in addition to the Call for Consensus within APA.

<jasonjgw> https://www.w3.org/2018/03/draft-apa-charter

<jasonjgw> Responding to Scott, Judy notes the history of the integration of Research Questions into the APA Working Group and considers whether some clarification of this aspect of APA work may be desirable in the Charter.

Verticals at: https://www.w3.org/WAI/APA/wiki/Verticals_to_Track

<jasonjgw> There is general agreement with Janina's statement that the role of this work should be made concise and clear in the draft Charter.

<jasonjgw> David: it should be clear that RQTF comprises researchers available to contribute to APA activities and to share research findings.

<jasonjgw> Jason will review the Charter again and comment on the APA list if clarification regarding the RQTF work (i.e., that it's within the scope of APA) becomes desirable.
