Planning of upcoming work and review of literature - navigation, virtual reality, Web of things, etc.

jgw: Idea is for us to have a general discussion of current objectives for the year.
... Reviews the open topics in rqtf ...
... New is navigation ...
... Different kinds of navigation ...
... sensitive to logical structure--logical nav.
... Also spatial navigation -- concerned with display layout
... Then there are others, could be spatial, relational, i.e. virtual world issues
... VR environment may require us to think differently about navigation
... Also there's discussion of nav in graphical objects
... e.g. a chart as a graphical object
... or nav of the data it presents
... 4-way or 8-way nav was topic in SVG A11y

<jasonjgw> Janina: ongoing conversation between APA, ARIA and CSS via CSS Accessibility Task Force, where the question of how best to provide guidance regarding spatial/structural navigation is bieng considered. Help is desired from RQTF.

jgw: Recalling related research which talked about landmarks
... info about locating info of interest
... Suspect may have contributed to ARIA landmarks
... Interested in how we should organize for this

sh: We don't have anything for AR, just VR. Perhaps we should start there?

jgw: Yes

sh: I'm clear for this after the 26th

jgw: We can start AR look starting next week

sa: Much XR discussion, but nothing yet formalized in a WG Charter

jgw: Wonders about delineation between AR and VR

sh: Mixed Reality seems to be a popular umbrella term

jgw: Also reading about discussion suggesting any extension beyond standard desktop becomes a topic for consideration

<jasonjgw> Janina suggests that these interfaces raise larger questions of human abilities than have conventionally been taken into account in discussing accessibility.

sa: Was positively surprised by the VR Workshop in support for accessibility in VR development

jgw: Unsure how much nav work has been done, or how we will find it

<jasonjgw> Janina suggests we identify what we're looking for, which is an interesting topic in its own right.

jgw: term: "information foraging"
... Maybe looking at the general issue of how people slog through stuff to find what they want could be informative to our issue
... It's been related to animals searching for food
... Wondering about inter-relation between mixed reality and environmental sensor networks. A WoT topic?
... Took issue of reliability as particularly important to a11y as a very excellent point
... Let's discuss further on wiki

sh: Happy to participate after the 26th

jgw: So, perhaps our next call should be on the 31st?
