Education and Outreach Working Group Teleconference

21 Oct 2016

Summary

EOWG participants checked in for a brief meeting to align and report on everyone's Resource Management work, the WAI site redesign and other ongoing deliverables. Chairs reminded everyone to update your availability for teleconferences, especially with holiday season approaching. Next the group considered the questions on the WAI Site Redesign Task survey and had no objections to its distribution as is. It will remain open until Nov 7 and EOWG should spread the word - anyone can take the survey. Resource Management update reports included the following:

Finally, Brent pointed all to the Work for this Week and asked for serious consideration of these resources. Please take the review process seriously, participate in surveys, and give these resources your full consideration as they head for publication. Thanks all!

Availability surveys

<shawn> Availability for Telecons: https://www.w3.org/2002/09/wbs/35532/availability/

Brent: Meetings are posted through the end of the year. Holidays are coming, need to know what the attendance will be so we can schedule.

WAI Task survey

<Brent> Survey :https://www.w3.org/2002/09/wbs/35532/wai-site-tasks/?login

Brent: Here is the link. The idea here is to get input for the design of the information architecture. Does EO have feedback before it goes out to the world for input?
... need clarification or edits of any kind?
... any comments or questions before it goes out?
... Charlotte looked at all the possibilities offered in the templates and this was the most well suited.

Brent: if everyone is OK with it, we will open it and allow it to be answered by anyone.

Sharron: how long will it be open?

Brent: Need to ask James.

Sharron: I will check in with him.

Weekly Resource Management Reports

Brent: The RM progress table is in development and there is a link to the RM tool. First one for discussion today is Easy Checks. Caleb has been monitoring the Easy Checks comments will propose a final edit, get that approved and that will wrap up the resource and then it can be published as a resource (out of draft status).
... next is the Tutorials, Eric is gtting work on those restarted.

Eric: Yes I have begun addressing issues, making the resources more simple, getting volunteers to help - Shadi, Adina, Denis, and Howard. Would like to get others involved as well. Three things to address right away:
... text in carousel, text in image decision tree, and the structure and functionality page of the carousel tutorial. Will send status update to the list and ask for your review. Will bring to EO within the next several weeks in a more formal way.
... have heard from Shawn and Shadi the KrisAnne and maybe Chris Langston may be able to give some time to this as well.

Brent: Thanks Eric

Brent: Policy work is next but Mary Jo is not here - has anyone been working with her and want to provide update?
... not hearing any, will move on.
... anything other RM updates?

Web Accessibility First Aid

Brent: Early comments from James have been incorporated If you have looked at it before, it is changed. Survey on this resource will be open until Tuesday - need thorough review from everyone. Shadi?

Shadi: Yes a big thanks to James who did direct edits and pull requests in GitHub, it was so helpful and easy to respond to. Please feel free to do the same or if not comfortable with that, leave comments in the survey.
... use issues or pull requests in GitHub as you are comfortable doing so.

Brent: any questions?

Work for this Week

Brent: Will focus on the thorough reveiw of the Web Accessibility First Aid, weekly survey will be short allowing focus on the existing open survey. Please do that review by Tuesday.

Sharron: Face to face agenda?

Howard: And what about a reception at AHG? If we will have a WAI istening reception like we did last year, we need to get it on the schedule.

Shawn: yes last year there was a good discussion even though we had a small group.

Howard: Would avoid Wednesday, and Thursday is a professional meeting but no special events. That might be a good time for that.
... also some round table openings, where you could highlight resources, get public feedback, or use that in any way to highlight WAI

Sharron: Yes thanks, please do send it to me and Shawn

Brent: Since James has joined, we can ask him how long to keep the survey open.

James: We are coming up for our monthly sprint report and it looks like we aren't going to have anything really completed anyway. So we can leave it open two weeks since it is pushed into the Nov sprint anyway.

Brent: OK we will close it on Nov 6.

Sharron: Great, consider it done.

Brent: anything else? Since we have nothing more for the meeting, please use the time to do the thorough review and we will see you next week.
