dezell: Relatively short Agenda - review Web Payments IG face-to-face meeting.

<Ian> trackbot: Start meeitng

<trackbot> Sorry, Ian, I don't understand 'trackbot: Start meeitng'. Please refer to <http://www.w3.org/2005/06/tracker/irc> for help.

<Ian> trackbot: Start meeting

dezell: Please let us know if you're coming to the meeting, helps us plan.

<trackbot> Meeting: Web Payments Interest Group Teleconference

manu: Would like to touch on Verifiable Claims as we go through the Agenda.

Face-to-Face Meeting Planning

dezell: We were hoping for outlines last week - some form of presentation material by today.
... We'd like session material - two of us have linked stuff to the page - people may have stuff.
... What I'd like to do is go down items on Agenda, see if I can get some indiciation of where people are.

<Ian> https://www.w3.org/Payments/IG/wiki/Main_Page/FTF_Jul2016

dezell: I created a questionnaire for the IG - still discussing - help us figure out if we're doing well or not - what to change - what to keep the same.
... We want input from people not traveling to face to face - be counted in that discussion - that questionnaire will likely be coming out this afternoon - please be patient with it - will require some thought, but shouldn't take you more than 30 minutes
... No link to that questionnaire yet.
... The second thing, posted a straw outline of candidate topics - and session on IG mission is going to be pretty much reviewing the mission, how we're doing, how to implement IG process.
... We want feedback on whether we're chasing the right things, or if we're not moving fast enough, need to know which of these categories we need to think about - IG process is going to be an interesting discussion - will have examples for that.
... Draft-y PDF file with a proposed powerpoint in it...
... Any questions on IG discussion?

<dlongley> manu: My assumption is that the questionnaire will go out this week and then we'll review parts of the results of it during the meeting.

<dlongley> dezell: That's the intent.

dezell: We still have ongoing discussions - will wrap those up as people's schedules permit. Any other questions on mission?

Verifiable Claims

<Ian> scribenick: Ian

<manu> Here's the Verifiable Claims Working Group Proposal - http://w3c.github.io/webpayments-ig/VCTF/

dezell: there is a primer and a draft charter
... and a whole bunch of supporting documentation
... arch doc
... survey results
... incubated spec
... public implementer statements of commitment
... there's also a slide deck

<manu> Verifiable Claims Working Group Proposal slide deck: https://docs.google.com/presentation/d/1mL0MsPpdxdKiYFWVIyGVOFzypBsjylxepACN2MYw-yg/edit

Manu: Please review the materials prior to the FTF

<inserted> scribenick: manu

dezell: This may be sort of out of order - beating the woodwork to make sure we have people available on phone for the discussion.
... Does the group need to know about logistics for verifiable claims?

Ian: I'll take an action to figure out the dial-up information - will send that around to people this week who request access. Probably through WebEx

<Zakim> manu, you wanted to ask about quorum for decision.

manu: Do we have quorum at face to face to make decisions?

dezell: I've spent some time thinking about it - my experience at W3C - quorum is not the same thing as it is at ISO - does that mean we're excluding? We're going to strive for consensus. If everyone in room agrees, including W3M on course of action, does that mean we do that?

Ian: We haven't had too many group decisions in the IG, one way to be inclusive is to put a question to the group and give people time to weigh in by email.
... One way to do this is to put a question to the group at the face-to-face meeting, question put to the group by email, people weigh in.

dezell: Would that be a WBS?

Ian: It could just be an email. Silence is consent.

<Ian> padler: I would like to see more structured way to gather data

<dlongley> padler: If we have very structured concerns/specifics topics to get input on, IMO, could we take some time to get specific responses? I'd prefer something with more structure.

<Ian> IJ: My expectation is a single question of the form "do you support this going to the membership"?

<Ian> padler: I was thinking rather that people would be looking for consensus on specific topics

padler: When David opened meeting on first topic, part of first topic is getting direction/clarity on IG and next steps - feedback.
... Reacting more to Manu's question generally.

Ian: An internal survey that is independent of decision making - input from people in room and by list - structured approach by questionnaire.
... There is also a question on endorsement from the group - don't mind creating a form - would you like a WBS poll for the group in Verifiable Claims case?

padler: I don't think we need the poll if silence is consent. Advocating more structure and metrics wrt. where does IG go next.

dezell: I've constructed a questionnaire, we need to agree on how long it should be - big thing w/ lots of good questions - I think we're doing what you're asking.

padler: Thanks.

dezell: Any other questions for Verifiable Claims?

Blockchain

dezell: I think we're going to have a brief update on what was discussed at the two day workshop and how it may affect the IG - then we have time for discussion for what IG may do next specifically on Blockchain - Erik, any additions?

Erik: No comments, don't expect it to add new requirements... maybe a new spin on things.

dezell: Any other questions on blockchain?

Coupons and other things

dezell: What are your plans, Linda - coupons - loyalty also?

Linda: I have the outline, almost have slide deck done - waiting on something from Gray Taylor (Connexxus). Was going through convenience stores stats, industry, promotions, history of coupons, what we do with loyalty, and what we're looking wrt. digital offers. Benefits, personalized marketing and why that's a good thing...
... Doing stuff with apps/browsers - how we want to validate / limit fraud, lifecycle management, digital offer ecosystem, indoor use case and outdoor use case, what does success look like for us.

dezell: Are you talking about website presence as well?

Linda: Don't know if that's top priority... order ahead or pickup in store is a possibility, but not a core use case at this point in time. I can touch on that item if you'd like.

<Zakim> manu, you wanted to ask about "offers that are not coupons"

<dlongley> manu: Question for Linda, I know we're talking about coupons/loyalty. There's another type of digital offer Dave and I have talked about in the last. This isn't really about taking a dollar off here or there, but this is about the merchant saying "There's an item for sale at this store location and this is the price." This is about the store providing what inventory they have for sale at a particular location.

Linda: That's what we mean by "digital offers" - doesn't have to be associated with a sale... just what's at the store.

dezell: Any other questions for Linda?
... I've put in an email to Joerg - he has some demoware - wonder if I should bring demos as well.

Linda: We'll catch up later - after call on that.

Interledger Protocol Update

dezell: I see the outline - do you have anything you need to let the group know or any last minute questions.

AdrianHB: This is going to be an update for the most part - our workshop will be the following week attached to the Web Payments WG - update specifically on ILP and WG API work - update session. Evan will probably be with me - we might do a quick demo of ILP tie in to Browser API. We have a lot we're trying to get done.

dezell: I hope we're on the same trajectory...

AdrianHB: Yes, I think so.
... It'll be a short session, looking for input from the group.

Ian: How short of a session do you think this will be?

AdrianHB: If we have a demo, 45 minutes, if no demo 30 minutes.

dezell: To tie it together, we have a brainstorming next session - we'll start off by talking about where we think we need to go and how to get there. Then we have short term, medium term, and longer term things to discuss. Then reconvene for brainstorming or may modify mission ideas. Any questions on meeting or any last minute updates?

<AdrianHB> +1 for demos

<dlongley> manu: I've got a question. I was trying to keep VC stuff constrained. I've been hearing people are wanting to see demos. Don't know if that would be helpful to the group or not

<jheuer> Sorry for being so late! My first day after 2 weeks vacation...

dezell: Ok, in general demo is a good thing - but we'll discuss.
... Joerg, loyalty and digital offer session - you said you may have contributions in this area - demo or something?

Joerg: Yes, always thought a lot about identity and payments and loyalty coupon being connected - coupons as they exist today are easy to copy which when media disappears (paper disappears) coupons will need to change.
... We will see protected coupons in the future - similar to vouchers - individual tokens that need to be processed - one insight that we got over the years - in Germany, certain coupons can only be used in conjunction w/ existing loyalty cards - automatically creates ties between loyalty and coupons - can give a few examples on this and show how we solve it at the face to face.

dezell: I think that's germane - will include you on the call w/ Linda.
... Any other discussion about face to face - last minute thoughts.

padler: Main page for agenda - we have some guests - do we know why guests are coming?

Ian: American Express has joined W3C.
... They're looking at a variety of activities, see which groups they want to join.
... Samsung are in WG - interested in Blockchain in particular.
... BlueSnap is keenly interested in PaymentRequest API work - and broad set of topics that we're discussing. They're Boston-based, convenient for them to come by.

padler: With recent Apple announcements and Google I/O announcements - is that interest in short discussion on implementations/offers - how will those impact what we're building as an IG?

dezell: I'm not sure I understand which announcement you're talking about

padler: There was discussion on mailing list on implementation/confirmation on mobile/phone browser payments w/ Apple Pay integration and demo that Rouslan did at Google I/O - these two are starting to play in that space - Web Payments IG - broad understanding on how those offers may change what we're working on next.

dezell: Apple will be at the meeting - I can make sure they cover that.
... Any other questions?
... At this point, I don't see a reason to meet next Monday - our next meeting will be at the face-to-face on July 1st. Anyone want to have a meeting next week?

<Ian> Next meeting: 1 July FTF

<Ian> No meeting on 27 June
