Is the multilinguality requirement in scope?
- State:
- CLOSED

- Use Cases and Requirements

- Description:
- Currently there is a multilinguality requirement: http://w3c.github.io/sdw/UseCases/SDWUseCasesAndRequirements.html#MultilingualSupport
"It should be possible to add metadata in different languages."
I wonder if this requirement is in scope for the Working Group. Is there something spatiotemporal about the requirement? It seems more like a general requirement for any data on the web.

Related notes:
I think it is out of scope for us. It seems to me the Data on the web BP addresses this in BP3 and BP4. There is not an explicit requirement for multilinguality but it is in the description of these BPs.
Linda van den Brink, 12 May 2015, 10:00:43I think it is out of scope for us. It seems to me that this is addressed in the Data on the web BP, although it is not an explicit requirement there. But the text in Best practice 3 and Best practice 4 implies to me that metadata is/can be multilingual.
Linda van den Brink, 12 May 2015, 10:02:38Proposed resolution: the requirement should be rephrased to:
All vocabularies that will be developed or revised should have annotation in multiple languages.
This will mean that in such cases we will have to call upon WG members that are fluent in languages other than English to provide this annotation.
