ISSUE-162: Which calendar?

Which calendar?

State:
CLOSED
Product:
Time ontology in OWL

Description:
From https://www.w3.org/XML/2007/qts-timeont-comments

The document doesn't seem to describe anywhere how to specify what calendar is in use in a particular DateTime description. Can it be inferred from this that all correct DateTime descriptions use the same calendar?

If so, then which calendar do they use? Some indications suggest that the proleptic Gregorian calendar is used (for example, the parallel between the xsdDateTime and inXSDDateTime relations, which have xsd:dateTime as their ranges, and the other relations with DateTime descriptions as their ranges). But the document goes on to say “Someone doing a genealogical search may want to specify that the birthdate of a person is between 15 and 45 years before a known marriage date”, for which the XML Schema datatype isn't directly usable.

Related notes:

In the 2006 version of this document, the calendar was implicitly Gregorian, since the field in a DateTimeDescription etc used the xsd:gYear, xsd:gMonth and xsd:gDay, or the xsd:DateTime datatypes.

In this version the calendar in use can be indicated explicitly using the time:hasTRS property.
