How to get to the Stata Center

The MIT Computer Science and Artificial Intelligence Laboratory (CSAIL) is located at the northeastern edge of the MIT campus on Vassar Street near the intersection with Main Street. The building has an unusual architecture and can be easily recognized. Its unfinished look is on purpose and there is no need to bring paint to cover the visible ciment of the columns.

Boston Logan International Airport is the closest international airport to MIT. The travel time between the airport and hotels in Cambridge will vary between 30 minutes to one hour depending on traffic conditions. Taxis from the airport are plentiful and fares will range around $30-40.

The Stata Center is located almost 2 blocks away from the MBTA Red line Kendall/MIT stop (directions). Once you exit the subway station, walk up on main street, away from the river and the building will be on the left once you reach the intersection with Vassar street. We strongly suggest that visitors use public transportation. Alternately, several of the hotels provide shuttle service to MIT.

The MIT Parking and Transportation Office does not offer pay lots for visitors. They note: "Because the number of visitor parking spaces on campus is limited, it may not be possible to accommodate every visitor who wishes to park at MIT... We strongly recommend using public transportation when visiting the MIT campus."

How to get to the meeting room

Use the building entrance which is the nearest to the street intersection. Once you're in the Stata Center, use the elevators located in the Gates tower (opposite to the information center with a big question mark above it).

Take the elevators to the 8th floor. Exit the elevator lobby, turn left and go straight. Room 882 is the old MIT CSAIL library and has a high ceiling.

Things to remember

• The Stata Center is a confusing building. There are two towers, Gates and Dreyfoos. We will meet in the Gates tower.
• The building is on an automatic locking system. Doors to the elevator foyers will close at 5pm. Attendees will be able to get out of but not back into the building. The stairwells also lock at 5pm and the only unlocked door is on the first floor to the outside.
• Please be careful of your belongings even when stepping away for a short while. The first floor of the building is open to the public and there is no restricted access to the upper floors even if that area is not open to the public. Most conference rooms do not lock.
