ISSUE-4: Will the set of algorithm be required with a SHOULD or a MUST in Web Crypto API ?

MUST or SHOULD

Will the set of algorithm be required with a SHOULD or a MUST in Web Crypto API ?

State:
CLOSED
Product:
Web Cryptography API
Raised by:
Virginie GALINDO
Opened on:
2012-07-19
Description:
While the group agrees that set of algorithm MUST be referenced in the Web Crypto API, and their behavior when being used MUST be carefully described, and errors management worked, there is no consensus on the group to mandate with a MUST or with a SHOULD the corresponding set of algorithms.
One one hand the MUST path would ensure the developer to have a fixed set of algo available on each platform, but on the other side, some arguments related to free-evolution of products, difficulties to implement the same set of algo across different platforms, legislation implications are mentioned.
