All XML parsers that use schemas cope with patterns, which
in a sense is more complex than what EXI specifies for patterns.
Implementation report has shown no significant performance
issues. Patterns can be processed statically. The solution
we currently have in spec is the simplest among the spectrum
of solutions that we considered. Also, making it optional
introduces issues wrt. conformance and interoperability.
