14. How many resources should a project allocate to standards activities

The amount of resources that need to be included in the work plan depends on the degree to which the project has standardization of project results as an objective. Projects that have the intention to create a new standard or modify an existing standard typically need and average of 12 person month’s effort allocated to the specific procedural tasks of standardization, usually spread over 18 to 36 months of a project. This does not include the research work related to defining the standard, only managing the process of standardization within appropriate standards bodies.
