Both SOAP/WSDL and RDF have ideas about how to encode objects (eg
Java objects) in XML.
(Several other systems have ideas about this, too. It's a common
problem. See Henry's mapping work, the
Schema Adjunct Framework, my blindfold work, and
some of my notes on the subject.)
