IetfW3cLiaison/Japan2015

From W3C Wiki

This is a set of ideas / notes on the opportunities provided by the adjacent 2015 IETF and W3C meetings in Japan.

Advertising and Advice

Notify participants in both communities about the adjacent meetings and the opportunity for cross-participation, etc.

This means writing a guide for each with pointers to appropriate details, culture background, WG summaries, etc. so that their participation will be effective, and to make the extra travel easier to justify.

Registration

It should be easy for IETF participants to register for TPAC, and vice versa.

At a minimum, this means writing guides for each audience to point them in the right direction (see above).

We should also get the business people on each side to discuss whether some special rate for participating in both should be offered.

W3C WG Scheduling

Ask chairs of interesting WGs to prefer late-week scheduling and allocate larger rooms, to allow IETF observers, including:

  • WebRTC WG
  • Web Performance WG
  • Privacy IG
  • WebAppSec WG
  • WebApps WG
  • WebCrypto WG

IETF WG Scheduling

Ask chairs of interesting WGs to prefer early-week scheduling and allocate larger rooms, to allow W3C observers, including:

  • RTCWEB WG
  • HTTP WG
  • APPSAWG
  • JSON WG
  • WEBSEC WG
  • IANAPLAN
  • WEBPUSH WG
  • TRANS WG

Joint Events

Possible IETF-focused / informed events at W3C or IETF include:

  • A privacy/security workshop (e.g., half day Friday, half day Monday)
  • Internet Governance overview (IANAPLAN WG or something else), other policy-related topics
  • A session on URL/URI (e.g., breakout on W3C Wednesday)
  • W3C speaker at IETF Tech Plenary

Leadership Event

Get the IAB, IESG and selected IETF WG chairs together with the TAG, AB and selected W3C WG chairs, possibly cocktails or dinner in Tokyo on Friday or Saturday?

W3C has also offered to discuss hosting IETF leadership pre-meetings in Sapporo if there's interest.
