Agenda

Minutes

  • Attendees: Bo A., Holger S., Scott M., Don D., Eric P., Susie S., Steve R., Michel D.
  • <Susie> Steve's slides are at: http://esw.w3.org/topic/HCLSIG_BioRDF_Subgroup/Meetings/2008-03-10_Conference_Call
  • <holger_stenzhorn> Steve Ruberg gives overview of CDISC SDTM and the Semantic Web
  • <holger_stenzhorn> slides are on the web (link above)
  • <holger_stenzhorn> then we talk about the status of documentation progress
  • <holger_stenzhorn> and then the HCLS workshop
  • <holger_stenzhorn> Steve presents its slides and talks about its contents
  • <mscottm> attributes, yes :)
  • <holger_stenzhorn> Susie: questions?
  • <holger_stenzhorn> Susie: AZ interested in the presented work
  • <holger_stenzhorn> Bo: the proposed would be helpful but I am not sure if Steve has included the need fr the evolvement of the standards
  • <holger_stenzhorn> Steve: we recognize the complexity of the world, it is easier to get track in a smaller area like the phrma area and then approach the whole HCLS
  • <holger_stenzhorn> Steve: we would be happy to encode our products with open standards
  • <holger_stenzhorn> Susie: Steve interested in talking privately to Kerstin
  • <holger_stenzhorn> Steve: yes
  • <holger_stenzhorn> Bo: Steve's work interested but the work can be improved
  • <holger_stenzhorn> Steve: happy to collaborate
  • <holger_stenzhorn> Scott: SKOS used to create relations between terms - worked well in the agricultural domain (student has worked on that succesfully)
  • <holger_stenzhorn> Steve: pharmaceutical companies see no competitive advantages in ontologies, standards and hence are happy to work together with others
  • <holger_stenzhorn> Susie: sending Steve a pointer to SKOS
  • <holger_stenzhorn> ericP: work in COI - modelling SDTM in RDF - interested in showing Steve a quick example how we see the world in triples and evolving taxonomies...
  • <holger_stenzhorn> Susie: is there a broader interest within CDISDC for the HCLS work?
  • <holger_stenzhorn> Steve: will ask the CDISC folks
  • <holger_stenzhorn> Steve: a little sceptic about ontologies - not clear how ontologies might really help - but still need to learn more
  • <holger_stenzhorn> ericP: the challenge is that people need to write all things down in trial settings
  • <holger_stenzhorn> Steve: we have the control to tell the people what to write down and how specifc
  • <holger_stenzhorn> ericP: the more you make machine-readale the less you have to make "cognitive processing"
  • <holger_stenzhorn> Steve: meaning of "systolic blood pressure" might be different meaning at different sites - need to see how to compare/map the different meaning
  • <holger_stenzhorn> ericP: in ontologies new terms invented as needed, existing terms used if possible
  • <holger_stenzhorn> Steve: in CDISC "we should agree on meaning for systolic blood pressure" but problematic for large industry companies
  • <holger_stenzhorn> ericP: talk privately later and deeper
  • <holger_stenzhorn> Susie: status of documents
  • <holger_stenzhorn> Steve: signs off and says thank yo - will follow up
  • <holger_stenzhorn> Susie: where are we?
  • <holger_stenzhorn> ericP: 2 weeks ago both documents have been published - senselab/kb document
  • <holger_stenzhorn> ericP: broken links/PURLs in the documents need to be fixed - will be done at the end of the week - kb pircutre needs to be "tweaked"
  • <holger_stenzhorn> ericP: senselab doc in better shape
  • <holger_stenzhorn> ericP; next Monday the document will be published
  • <holger_stenzhorn> Scott: hardware has migrated at Science Commons, not stable yet
  • <holger_stenzhorn> ericP: changed pictures a lot but give feedback to still improve them
  • <holger_stenzhorn> Susie: will the link be stable when the migration is done
  • <holger_stenzhorn> ericP: yes
  • <holger_stenzhorn> mscottm: make a copy of the bundle and put them somewhere else for security
  • <holger_stenzhorn> mscottm: it is just a snapshot and at the moment it is the original Banff demo data
  • <holger_stenzhorn> mscottm: ideas for improvement from senselab
  • <holger_stenzhorn> mscottm: less than 10gb in totall
  • <holger_stenzhorn> Susie: it would be nice to publish the document along the data
  • <holger_stenzhorn> Susie: publish more focused and expanded version of the documents in the future
  • <holger_stenzhorn> ericP: pretty sure to publish the docs next week
  • <holger_stenzhorn> Susie: progess in the URI document?
  • <holger_stenzhorn> mscottm: feedback valued
  • <holger_stenzhorn> michel: try to come up with guidelines for HCLS people in general
  • <holger_stenzhorn> michel: work very fruitful but still preliminary
  • <holger_stenzhorn> michel: any kind of opinion about the final document should be snd to Jonathan and Michel
  • <holger_stenzhorn> michel: so many different possible topics - have to decide on what to concentrate
  • <holger_stenzhorn> mscottm: have the impression of the URI document that data integration is not topic centr but should be
  • <holger_stenzhorn> mscottm: why ware we talking about URIs? the whole point about the whole thing...
  • <holger_stenzhorn> mscottm: URIs to map data - talking about the same URI means talking about the same thing
  • <holger_stenzhorn> michel: what can URIs be used for? what restrictions can be put on URIs to be coherent and consistent?
  • <holger_stenzhorn> mscottm: use case in the KB
  • <holger_stenzhorn> Susie: Scott and Michel could talk further online...
  • <holger_stenzhorn> Susie: DSE notes progress?
  • <holger_stenzhorn> Susie: eric neumann should have looked at it
  • <holger_stenzhorn> holger: ESWC paper has been accepted
  • <holger_stenzhorn> Susie: have to have e-mail discussion about HCLS workshop
