Personally Controlled Medical Records
Due to the fragmented nature of the health care industry in the US, it is common for patients to need to have tests repeated as they move to different health care providers. Further, if patients participate in clinical trials, or get their genomes scanned, it isn't possible to have that data integrated with their medical records. Consequently, companies are exploring solutions for personally controlled medical records, for example, Google Health and Microsoft HealthVault.
This project would explore how Semantic Web technologies could be incorporated into the nascent products for managing personally controlled medical records.
Recently, an excellent article on this topic was published in the New England Journal of Medical, and there has been much discussion in leading newspapers.
