Agenda

Cecil Lynch will present the CDC TB surveillance system as an end to end use of SW and rules based system for National Disease Surveillance, the use of ontology both as a "smart app" but also as rapid engineering artifacts that give longevity to system design by abstracting the knowledge layer from the application. He will discuss the biggest challenge we will face in the next few years is organization of the linkages between the genome and the phenotypical disease expression. The Disease ontology is trying to tackle part of this but there is so much poorly linked data on disease states, biomarkers, gene snips, proteins and gene expression that it is going to be hard to deliver on the promise of personalized medicine.
