Work Flow

How a mix of CSS and XSL-FO might produce results.

Ideas on how a merged styling might/could work.

Hypothesis. The starting point is some XML definition of page layout, with style information attached to selectors (xpaths or CSS style selectors).

xIncludes could be either pure CSS or pure XSL-FO depending on the target.

Processing would be determined by the output (CSS|XSL-FO) (or perhaps by the 'style language' preferred?).

The end result would be

  • XSL-FO based XML ready for an XSL-FO Formatter
  • CSS ready to be applied to (X)HTML
  • Some mix/intermediate format which a formatting engine could use to style output for a web page or print.
