Raw use case suggestions

These are raw suggestions for use cases that need refining and categorising.

  • when I am on the phone turn down the volume of the tv/radio/media player in the room I am currently in
  • adjust lighting/heating/media preferences according to who is present (me, my spouse, my teenage kids, my elderly parents)
  • slowly brighten the lights and adjust the mood when I am about to wake up
  • track my fitness through my smart watch or fitness band and compare with millions of other people to check my health
  • advise me on the day’s weather when I am getting up so that I leave home with the appropriate clothes
  • remind me when I need to water the garden, based upon history of weather conditions and forecasts for rain
  • turn down the heating when no one is at home
  • turn the heating up so that the house is warm by the time I get home
  • have the house cleaner ‘bot clean the floors when I leave for work
  • turn off the lawn sprinkler when someone is approaching the house or leaving the house
  • run the dishwasher/washer-dryer machine during the night when the prices are lowest
  • gracefully reduce energy consumption when the price is at a peak (or grid is under heavy load) — dim/switch off lights in rooms with no one present, pause dishwasher, etc.
  • dynamically change my energy supplier based upon who has the cheapest prices
  • monitor my car, central heating, washing machine, etc. and warn me when signs of imminent failure occur and help me arrange for a service
  • track the use by dates for the food I have in my refrigerator and warn me when items should be used or discarded
  • suggest menus based upon what ingredients I have at home and help me find & purchase any ingredients that I am missing
  • suggest menus based upon what’s on special offer at my local shops
  • help me match my menus and portion sizes to my monitored level of activity and my weight readings
  • re-order office/home printer supplies based upon observed rate of consumption so that the replacements arrive just in time
  • in meetings, allow me to share slides, spreadsheets, and other documents with the people present, and with the room’s projector/wall screen
  • arrange office cleaning schedule based upon level of activity
  • show me the way to a free parking space (in a nearby street, or in a parking garage)
  • allow my smart watch to unlock my car as I approach it
  • when I am driving and approaching a junction turn the phone/radio/music player down and if on the phone let the other person know via a sound effect
  • warn of traffic problems and estimated journey time before I leave for work
  • automatically open the garage door as I am about to get home in my car
  • air compressor at the gas station works with your car to inflate your tires to the correct pressure
  • recognise me and automatically unlock/open the door for me when I arrive back home
  • for items that have to be signed for, rearrange the time for home delivery based upon my plans, or if I prefer, redirect the delivery to the collection point most convenient to me
