Agenda:

1. Agenda Review & Updates:
- additions to agenda? - updates on previous action items? (demo sites, translations of pointers flyer, deliverables page) - announcements of EO related events?

WL – still need to get to policy reviews.  JB – noted, but not ready yet.
JB – sent detailed summary of demonstration site to WinWriters of Seattle.  They are comfortable working with this and will let us know when there is something ready for review or if they have questions.
JB – Translation of pointer flyer – we now have a Finnish translation.
JB – Deliverables page – linking in from the minutes to the deliverables list wherever possible.
JB – trying to update the status of the deliverables.
HB – the presentation he did a week ago – full set of slides was available and would be happy to move them out of his area to someplace else. Both accessible and graphical version.
JB – could hang them off the EO page.
HB – will send a message to EO pointing to those slides.

2. Review Deliverables priorities:

- discuss which EO deliverables should be synchronized with which other WAI
releases - particularly upcoming PA & UA

JB - User agent guidelines go to Proposed Recommendation sometime in November or early December and Page Author to Proposed Recommendation probably in December.  Hopes to send out curriculum slides and reference card and hopefully the demonstration web site.
WL – should show the latest Page Author guideline at the EITAAC meeting.
JB – US Access Board to develop standards for electronic information technology including web accessibility.  She will have the latest copy of the PA guidelines in hand.

3. WAI-TIDE/RNIB Videos: Opportunity to comment

- any brief input for RNIB folks, without trying write a movie by committee?
http://lists.w3.org/Archives/Public/w3c-wai-eo/1998OctDec/0013.html

WL- thinks that WGBH should be involved in the captioning of the WAI/TIDE video
JB – does Geoff Freed know who in Europe is doing the captioning or description?
GF – will look into it and get back to Judy.
JB – will be recommending they publish in SMIL to the Web.
AC – might show people with disabilities working with the Web (i.e. designing pages)
JB – will request a followup version of the story line for second version.

4. Reference card: Comments

- please everybody look at Alan's latest draft & thread which follows, let
us move this onward!
http://lists.w3.org/Archives/Public/w3c-wai-eo/1998OctDec/0009.html

AC – trying to incorporate as many suggestions as will fit or are practical.  Would like comments in the next day or two and will provide a third draft.
AC – do W3C have a graphic designer to pretty it up?
JB – Yes, we do.
DD – still has more comments – dislikes the use of “duplicate pages” – the message it sends is not what the W3C wants.
JB – change “guidelines” to “tips”
MK – these are related to HTML only
AC – as tips, you can’t encompass everything.
HB – should make it more general to include XML constructs as well (the concepts are the same, but actual markup is not transferable).
SS – would be nice to add something about consistent navigation.
JB – make your comments known to Alan via the list.
AC – to summarized: will change “Guidelines” to “Tips”, make html examples more correct, something about audio for people can’t hear, move audio up on the list, add more reasons, add “consistent” in layout, something in page layout about navigation.
JB – should we send it to PA for a review?
CL – doesn’t think it would be terribly productive.
JB – will think about it.

5. Events Coverage:

- recommendations on coverage for events with upcoming submission deadlines?
http://lists.w3.org/Archives/Public/w3c-wai-eo/1998OctDec/0014.html
- feedback on WWW8/WAI coordination report?
http://lists.w3.org/Archives/Public/w3c-wai-eo/1998OctDec/0015.html

JB – re WWW8 – already being addressed by various people.
AC - NECC 99 Spotlight on the Future: Technology for the New Millennium conflicts with RESNA
JB – get RESNA on schedule
AC – RESNA is at end of June in Long Beach CA
JB – Put in the WAI interest group update, put pointers to Jim’s message and Kitch’s list.
There was more discussion about WWW8.
SS – would like to try coming up with an interesting topic for a panel
AC – why not get a guest speaker from an organization which has made an effort to work towards accessibility.
JB – could work
JB – can recommend one or more plennary sessions?  Anybody who is high profile?
CL – perhaps a CIO in the Government of Canada, but the timing might not be right.
HB – what about some EITAAC members?
JB – might be appropriate.  Will look into it.
SS – what about Jacob Neilsen ?
JB – will go to Jutta with these suggestions.
WL – the web site must conform to access guidelines.
JB – Jutta is in charge of the web site so it should be quite accessible.  More concerned about the physical access to the site.  Sending Jutta an accessibility planning guide.
AC – may be able to help Jutta by doing an accessibility audit of the WWW8 site.

6. Curriculum Slide Sets:

- considerable new content developed for PA guidelines curric. purpose of
discussion here is not to go into details of presentation, but to comment
on presentation strategies. how well will this content work as
stand-up-and-present materials? as self-instructional?
http://lists.w3.org/Archives/Public/w3c-wai-eo/1998OctDec/0016.html

HB – has drill-down stuff which is an improvement over his.
AC – thinks these are a great tool.
CL – there was considerable discussion about the making of slides and using tools and the problems of a layered presentation.
JB – Encourages us to use Slidemaker to get a feel for what the slides will look like – ensure they are usable on the web, zipped presentation, displayed on an LCD, and overhead projection.
SS or MK - What about a HELP file?
JB – WinWriters are expert at that.

7. Meeting close:

- Confirm schedule change starting November?
JB – are we still in agreement 8:30 – 10:00 AM on Friday morning for calls starting November 6.
All - Yes

- agenda topics for next meetings?
JB - Need to get back to policy stuff.
JB – next meeting same time next week [error -- next meeting is in two weeks, Oct 22]
