MINUTES

1) Outreach & Updates

- presentations given, presentations upcoming, key events to cover, etc.
WL will check with Jim & Kitch about events page update status

2) Review of draft "WAI Overview" on-line presentation <http://www.w3.org/Talks/1999/0401-wai-jb/>

- clear? sufficiently self-explanatory?
- useful? engaging/annoying? major gaps?

* HB, CMN, AC, WL, have had a chance to review it briefly
HB first two slides look the same
JB intended to be title slide then intro, too similar
WL WOW! this is great! most signif EO this -- better than quicktips, etc., self-explanatory. organization is impressive. but inconsistive amount of content, needs to be regularized. this is a template for similar things. this could be used as a template, if the tool is available.
JB could make slidemaker tool part of EO deliverables, or WAI tools group.
WL if all activists could generate presentations with something like this, would be great.
HB usually use powerpoint, convert to HTML, then went through & undid all the damage.
*JB look into making slidemaker tool available.
WL should be a high priority, this is a excellent tool.
JB not totally happy with accessibility of it.
AC went through with lynx. content of that is great. could do a good presentation based on this organization of material. took till half way through to realize the organization of links. there are double links.
CMN that's a lynx echo
HB up, back, forward, change size buttons aren't labelled properly
WL need to use our own guidelines
AC all lot of it just crams up together, stuff bunches up on lines. numbered items end at end of first line.
CMN the lines get munged.
JB don't know why this is happening.
WL the content could work better on Web site. as a way to present
JB could use Chuck's & Geoff's presentation format.
WL use our guidelines & think of it as web pages. content probably won't change at all.
AC content shouldn't change much. lots of links. w3c & wai should be at bottom of slides
WL they are blocking the re-sizing the font, happens anyway with style sheets.
JB there is a style sheet rotation link under the nav arrows; I only put 2 of 6 choices, will add more
HB change size too inconsistent, across the size.
*JB add better navigation options, better size control, better explanation to user.
AC first link around previous comes out w/ wierd alt.
WL arrow should have name of slide it goes to.
HB navigator allows enlarging of at least one of the changes.
JB what about the content, it kind of falls down towards the end?
WL don't work so late
AC didn't die out
WL remove all links to non-WAI stuff, to unreliable fixed stuff
CMN like having the links there, in general
HB references to legal precedent,
JB could bring all external links more on-board, or have backups on site.
*WL get a scribe that is in the group that is not a member of the group
*HB will send comments
*CMN will email
*AC spelling mistakes

3) Review of FAQ draft (by phone only, not circulating)

JB background
CMN why 10
HB deliver resources by links
JB by embedding in links
WL most rapidly adopted technology, educate them by having this thing, attitude towards what press release... careful about defensive attitude in cost question.
MRK there should be a list of press releases

4) Exploration of "templates" idea in lieu (at least temporarily) of demo sites

- look at "W3C Core Styles" <http://www.w3.org/StyleSheets/Core/>
- is it possible for us to do something similar for accessiblity?
- if so, what would be in the series?
- development time & resources?
JB is it feasible?
CMN remotely feasible to do it, with specific instructions
JB would need instructions on what tools not to use, or else munging
AC copy & steal
JA style sheets inconsistent support
WL the core style sheets are hard to use. very confusing. careful who you hire on it.
AC one would be called the beige. used on a site to convey textual information. intelligent links and examples. navigation examples. basic page.
JA one for a forms page.
AC a template is everything except the contents.
JB dummy contents
WL contest
JB tables, forms, basic page,
CMN stuff w/ serious layout, dynamic html guru page done accessible,
AC and a friendly frames page, and something with image maps & nav bars.
AC thumbnail sketches of features
*JB will follow up on a stray idea

5) Collection of reliable public sites

- nominations?
- feasibility of identifying, maintaining?
CMN will vet them
JB ask IG for nominations
AC need a Web accessibility hall of shame
CMN pillory.w3.org
WL can't find 10 that are accessible
KB tracking down sites
*JB search & nominate, vett, work out an agreement with them
MRK freeze 'em
JB freeze-dried sites less credible than living sites
AC but could use them as templates
